Custom skin= purple checkerboard

Excited to try this classic, but the skins are really dated. I have downloaded a custom skin, as well as installed True Patch Gold, yet the character that I have reskinned appears with a purple and black checker skin. I am assuming this is because the game cannot detect the custom skin, any thoughts?

You should use the Unofficial patch not True Patch Gold, it's by someone else who made it when the Unofficial patch did not have a Basic option - they believed the patch restored too much, but now those things are in the Plus patch in the installer options. It's really outdated!

One confusing thing about skins is the directories. I haven't played the game in a while but it's something like:

materials > models > pc > malkavian
and THEN
models > the same path

So it's quite easy to put the models in the texture folder and vice versa.

Am I to understand that you need to extract a given skin to both the materials and the models folders?

If the whole model has changed yes. By the way are you doing it from an existing save? Because you need to start fresh games usually.

I have acctually clean installed the game and not even saved yet, I get the purple checkerboard in thecharacter creation.

I am currently downloading the unofficial patch,instead of the true patch, I went with the true patch because the download time was far less

There are fast mirrors in my pinned thread.

I've took a look at the zip and it should work just by adding "materials" to the other "materials" folder, no model is even involved, hmm.

By the way, this will only affect the very first outfit you get (there are no clothes, armor actually includes hair/skin etc. too).

It works fine for me. Make sure to manually delete any leftover Bloodlines folder after uninstalling/before reinstalling.

Did you choose a mirror site closest to you to download the UOP from? That helps alot.
Also if you choose the plus content in the UOPatch , it already has some mods activated.
