One confusing thing about skins is the directories. I haven't played the game in a while but it's something like:
materials > models > pc > malkavian
and THEN
models > the same path
So it's quite easy to put the models in the texture folder and vice versa.
If you supply a link to the skin download, I'll test/confirm it for you...
If the whole model has changed yes. By the way are you doing it from an existing save? Because you need to start fresh games usually.

I have acctually clean installed the game and not even saved yet, I get the purple checkerboard in thecharacter creation.
I am currently downloading the unofficial patch,instead of the true patch, I went with the true patch because the download time was far less

I've took a look at the zip and it should work just by adding "materials" to the other "materials" folder, no model is even involved, hmm.
By the way, this will only affect the very first outfit you get (there are no clothes, armor actually includes hair/skin etc. too).
Did you choose a mirror site closest to you to download the UOP from? That helps alot.
Also if you choose the plus content in the UOPatch , it already has some mods activated.
