Are guns terrible?
So I haven't much time into the game and I just want to know if It's just the 38 special that sucks or am I wasting my time with guns. Seems that with the rag dolling I get on others, and blood boost able to put me into turbo mode I do a lot more dps and have more control over a fight using my undead fists. I auto rolled toreador btw.

The general consensus is that guns become more powerful than melee as the game progresses.

Tories with high perception should do well. Seems as though most people do not use auspex, but it can temporarily boost perception and wits I believe. (haven't played one yet)

Well if that's the case than I can stick with it... Thanks for the help!

I dont use them much except for a few situations but they are ok long as your ranged tab is leveled decently as well as perception I think.

Fire arms to 5 and dex i think to 5 and GG. When you play a non combat heavy clan, best to pick fire arms or melee or just plain fighting skills. One of any of em as back up for when you need to fight boss fights and unavoidable fights. Lil stam and always get best armor.
AUG gun always works wonders. That and the flamethrower.

flame thrower is great but runs out of ammo too fast and you cant carry that much extra for it

actually guns can be fun both in the game and in real life.

As I recall (playing the original CD-ROM version a decade ago; it doesn't play nice with Windows 7), the .38 is in fact utter garbage and the Ingram rather weak, but the shotguns do solid if slow damage and the Uzi and Steyr on full auto are unholy terrors provided the target is big enough to hit in spite of barrel climb. Auspex boost Perception by 3 when maxed out, giving you a theoretical maximum dice pool of 13. Any enemy, no matter how ancient or monstrous, can be sent to Hell given a large enough supply of 9 mm Parabellum and .22 NATO rounds.

guns are deadly as you progress, but overall i find the guns really clunky tbh. does it even do headshots? i feel like it doesnt make a difference

I have noticed headshots do more damage and seem to perhaps have an increased chance of a "crit" or whatever the system the game uses is that's close to crits.

It's subtle but headshots do have a purpose.
Yes, they're terrible but max out your fire arms because you'll need them for the final boss

For Gehena's sake, keep the damn AUG. I made that mistake on my first run

"Everything" is terrible if you don't invest points in it. Skill points really do matter in this game...you can aim all you want, you probably won't hit without a decent ranged combat score. It also helps to put points into celerity if it's a clan discipline, and to use it. Enhanced speed + guns = win!

Whet talking about guns in Bloodlines one must remember following:
- Early-game guns are pretty useless (38 Special, Glock, Ingram). Only pump-action shotgun can provide some decent firepower. Later in game you'll encounter more powerful firearms.
- Guns are weak against supernaturals (just like in the original pen-and-paper game) so you must use diciplines and melee weapons (blades preferably) when fighting vampires, ghouls, zombies and other creatures of the night, until you find really powerful guns like Anaconda, or unless you have steady hand and good aim (see below).
- Always aim for the head - it does roughly twice the damage and really helps when fighting supernaturals (see above).
- As mentioned earlier in this thread, everything is weak in this game if you don't invest points in it. If you want to play gunslinger, you must max out your perception and firearms skill as soon as possible. With perception 1 and firearms 2 even mighty AUG will be peashooter.

I just started a playthrough that focuses on guns. In my opinion they aren't terrible but they do seem less fun than melee weapons. I didn't find myself needing to use guns throughout the game. Flamethrower is an exception.
