Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

I love this game, what games are like it?
The thing that really really impressed me about this game was the skill system. You always have multiple ways to complete quests. For example the Gallery Noir quest. You can:

1. Stealth
2. Obfuscate
3. Any of the tier one disciplines that stun people can cause him to drop his keys.
4. Persuade chunk
5. seduce chunk
6. intimidate chunk
7. dominate chunk
8. use dementation on chunk
9. just kill him

I've been looking for similar RPG's where you have freedom like this. Something I found out was that most RPG's don't handle skills very well. They offer one or two methods and most of the skills are garbage.

So what other games out there are similar to VTMB in this respect?

Still none of the above games will give you as many options as Bloodlines!

As far as I know, this is also the only RPG that lets you play a vampire. Withe exception of Vampire The Masquerade Redemption.

Of course there are the Sims and The Elder Scrolls, but since being a vampire is only optional, I do not includes them.

DARK, BloodLust, and Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed are games that might be RPG-ish

Those are really pushing the definition of an RPG. they are no like, Ultima, Fallout, Skyrim or the first Dragon Age where you can build your character or have multiple solutions to problems based on your character.

I would love to see a whole series based on being a vampire.

Maybe it can take place in Ancient Egypt, and the sequels go to place like Ancrient greece, Rome, Mdeival Times, colonial times, now, and maybe even future settings. That way you can get the feeling of being a true vampire, immortal and ageless as the world ticks on around you.

That. Sounds. Awesome.

Maybe they could have mass effect style choices, that have consequences and change things. And each game's choices influences the next. So as you endure, seeing the ages of history, you see the VERY long term results of your choices.

I wanna see a vampires in a futuristic sci-fi world. How would they adapt to that?

It will have to be set in modern times. There is no way in hell that I am going to play another fantasy RPG set in medieval times. We already have enough of those.

Sadly true but Deus Ex (the original game) is pretty damn close. Well as close as you can get to a game as unique as this really. This is why I usually say VTM:B's "Deus Ex with vampires".

OP:

Both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are good choices. Fallout 3's more action-y while Fallout: New Vegas is more RPGish. Both are quite similar to VTM:B but not Deus Ex-similar. Not a bad recommendation but from here the games start to feel less and less similar to VTM:B.

Dragon Age: Origins is also a pretty great choice. Want multiple endings, choosing a character's race + class (similar to VTM:B's clan choices) and a generally non-linear experience? Dragon Age: Origins is your game. Controls are very different to VTM:B and the combat's a lot more strategy-orientated with the ability to pause combat in real time -- a good recommendation.

As for DARK (which I got for a cheap price a while back and thought I'd give it ago): it wasn't a bad vampire game honestly and it shares a fair amount of similarities to VTM:B. Yeah it's got some meh voice acting and a not-so-great story but overall it was a lot better than what I expected. DARK's really linear though, and there's not too many different options during a lot of the quests, but there are plenty of opportunities to take out your ordinary enemies using many different methods.

Dishonoured, Bioshock and System Shock 2: definite similarities, but also very different games as well. Dishonoured is primarily a FPS stealth title, Bioshock is a FPS with a great story and an unnerving atmosphere while System Shock 2 is also a FPS and a survival-horror RPG.

[EDIT]: I previously forgot to mention Dishonoured was a FPS too.

I'd recommend Fallout: New Vegas and Alpha Protocol.
Plenty of different ways to do almost every quest in those two games.

And Alpha Protocol had it's early design done by Brian Mitsoda, who wrote most of the story for Bloodlines.

Alpha Protocol's a rough gem and I've oddly never saw it as being like VTM:B (but it's definitely pretty similar). The writing in it is fantastic... combat's a bit iffy though and the hacking is god-awful. It also has some of the best choices and respective consequences I've ever seen in a video game. I had heard Brian Mitsoda was involved but I had never looked to see if this was true. Great to know he was involved in yet another personal favourite game of mine.

I just finished this game for the first time (used the 9.3 PLUS patch) and the whole time I kept thinking about how it reminded me of Deus Ex. In fact it's made me want to pull that game out and play it again (if it will play on a modern machine).

... if it will play on a modern machine

I don't want to go off-topic but Deus Ex works good on a lot of new machines and there's only a few workarounds you might have to resort to.
