Make sure to start a new save game otherwise you'll experience various issues. It's best just to do the following though, if you want to ensure a completely bug-free experience:

> uninstall VTMB via. Steam
> delete the entire VTMB folder in the Steam directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\)
> reinstall VTMB via. Steam
> apply unofficial patch 9.2

* In the patch installer you'll have the option to install PLUS content. PLUS content involves restorations, minor changes to the gameplay and the game itself and is not recommended for a person's first playthrough of this game. If you want to play the game how it was intended, with just bug fixes, don't select the PLUS content.

You can install 9.2 on top, but you need to start a new save game.

Hullo all.
Installed 9.2 (the + version) and started playing right away. Fun to see some new details. Then, this happened:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=333873202

Boxes. Boxes everywhere in the Skyline Apartments. Boxes instead of door handles and boxes blocking key code inputs.
Help, anyone?

Oh that happens to me all the time in skyline apartments. Save the game while you are still inside apartment and then load it, it should fix the bug, but be careful not to stand on place where table or plant should have been, you will get bugged inside it.

Thanks for the tip. That did it.

Now, I'll just have to re-install everything again since I forgot to adjust the auto-update procedure. Turns out that the offical patch (when installed above the unofficial patch?) causes some wonky graphic glitches. Sigh... why Valve, why? Are we Bloodlines fans not cursed enough without you taking away our option of disabling auto-updates?

Grumble, grumble...

The apartment bug you described is just that, a bug. It's caused by the engine and only happens in the Skyline Apartments AFAIK. Simply reloading or closing the game and reloading will do the trick and make the apartment go back to normal. Lots of odd stuff happens with that apartment.

As for your next part of the post --> there was NEVER an option to disable auto-updates (although the option sounded like it did). Valve just simply renamed the old option that postponed updates until you launched a game.

Steam games will *only* update when an official new patch is released (which will most-likely never happen for this game).

Simply put: no need to reinstall unless you validated your game files with Steam -- which causes Steam to overrite the modified files that don't match the unmodified Steam files.

Ok. That explains some things. (Quick answears here. Me like.)
I may have done just that (validated the game files with Steam). I'll be more careful from now on.
