It's from 2004 and the problem is that it probably is one of the best RPGs of all time. Which says a lot of recent RPGs...
So why is it poping up NOW? In 2014? as RECENT news?
Because it's the most recent news that pretains to this game. And yes, I agree, this is still one of the best RPGs out there (even if its original state is one giant buggy mess).
VTMB is one of the all-time great RPGs indeed, but that PC Gamer list is pretty suspect.

The most likely reason, it's still being updated.

It was likely around April. VtMB got a bunch of media attention because UP 9.0 dropped then and the World of Darkness MMO was cancelled which made a lot of people think about the past glories of VtMB.

This IS THE best RPG of all time. No others can compare. Thank god for Wesp5 and his patches. I also can't wait for Project Vaulderie to finish. It's gonna be awesome to play it in a new engine with some graphical updates and of course multiplayer.

Well, I also love the game and it is certainly among the greats, but let's not go nuts here. Story and writing are second to none. Character progression and leveling is certainly well above average. However, it is buggy as all get-up, suffers from obvious beta syndrome and combat is terrible at best. VtMB is a gem, no doubt, but a flawed one.

definately in top 3 all-time.. .. .. easy.
I'd personally put either of the Fallouts, the two Baldur's Gates and Planescape: Torment above it, but VtMB is most certainly top 10 material.

While I do agree that VTMB is one of the greatest RPGs of all time I find it hard to take PC Gamer seriously after they gave the pile of ♥♥♥♥ called Dragon Age 2 94% with the motivation that it was one of the greatest rpgs ever made. Or their review of Deus Ex Human Revolution(which is a good game I might add) that was published days before other sites and was filled with praise for the game with almost no negativity at all.

Well there are plenty of places like that who accept money from big companies to put out glowing reviews of their otherwise horrible games. It's why I let my friends tell me if something's good/worth getting. In the case of VtMB, I've never heard anyone say anything bad besides how buggy it is and that's fixable.

You are not seriously going to tell me a game that is basicly impossible to finish without a fanmade patch is the best rpg of all time in it's original state... I do think it's the best rpg ever made WITH the patch, not without it.

Yes. Even if you only play Santa Monica its already 3 times better than anything else.
