Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

what is the true purpose of Ankaran sarcophagus?
so, what is the TRUE purpose of it? it seems Messerach is just a normal corpse (could be a ghoul for queen Lamastu) rather than an Antediluvian, or at least that's how Jack treated him in the ending.
what bothered me is that when you investigated the sarcophagus on the Dane, it had been opened and there was a massacre. Jack probably had opened it to switch the corpse to the C4, but I doubt he would have anything to do with the massacre even though he is a powerful vampire.
I wonder if this has something do with the cab driver too, whether he is Cain or not... I'm sure we had enough debate. but it's possible that Messerach is actually an Antediluvian and the driver was there to diableried him, he could be Cain himself, consider the background between him and Lamastu is very similar to Cain and Lilith. is it possible that Cain has the ability to switch body and the driver was a new body for him?

I wish we could play as the type of Malkavian Grout is. I don't like the Malkavian in Bloodlines(don't get me wrong, the dialogue is brilliant) but he/she is just too crazy in a silly way. I wish you could play as a Malkavian suffering from Depression, would make it easier for me to self-insert hahaha...

It seems to me that the true purpose of the Ankaran Sarcophagus is to force the player to decide to be involved in opening it or not, period.

Don't open it honkey.
Back on-topic again: the Ankaran Sarcophagus was believed by a few to be an ancient Mesopotamian king or by most to be an Antediluvian (as you stated).

It's just central to the plot as Cracker identified and anything more than that is usually pure speculation. You are right though; it does appear to have an inanimate mummy inside that Smiling Jack replaced with explosives.

A melt of facts and pure speculations...

=> The Malkav plot return : anyone thought of this? Isn't Grout quite rationnal for a malkavian? Maybe he was "channeling" him and that is why being killed by the Kuei Jin. Kuei = Ghost / Jin = Person. What did Ming Xiao saw? As there is a Malkav network, and that some malkavians seems to act Chaoticly, the plot device of the Desincarnated Malkav is to "guide" the Malkavians until all of them becoming Malkav. Thus Multimind, thus Chaos Magic, thus Thaumaturgy/Koldunism. And "Messerach" a Malkav's Ghoul or related? A vessel in someway. Vampires that could use telepathics or even switch bodies? Learning all the "Secrets" of all the Bloodlines thus all the Disciplines? A new Clan after the Cleanse... The Anubis clan for example? Combining the Physical/Mental/Esoteric perfect vampire. As were Caine, a new first born. Humans playing vampires in videogames, isn't it malkavian? Afterall Therese plays the Ventrue pretty well even Bertram had his suspicions but weren't sure... The power of Insanity is the one of Chaos.
=> TFN mod plot : the Setites // Apep's semblance = Apophis egyptian deity of Chaos => Set
the salubri // the Healers => Salubri
The conversation with Ming Xiao and the kuei jin origins is very interesting. http://whitewolf.wikia.com/wiki/Wan_Xian

Incarnation and Desincarnation. Life and Death. Or the opposite from the other side of the Mirror?

Well about the cab driver. If you use Auspex and look at him at any point in the game, you can see the purple supernatural aura around him. So i assume its not just Caine possessing him at the end, but rather its actually Caine all the time. There is no human cab driver, just Caine acting as one and enjoying the show.

There is one good spoiler in SIDE QUEST: THINNED BLOOD when "E" said to PC that "Jack out of the box" without knowing what that means... For me it means exacly that it was Jack who was in the Ankaran Sarcophagus...
Szogyenyi 3 abr. 2023 às 12:36
Or it's just a simple sarcophagus. The Beast Within mentions an Aztec priest who awoken from torpor in the modern age, and he mentions a sarcophagus which he used to be sleeping in, but nothing special beside that. I'm not sure it has any bigger role despite forcing the player decide which faction he/she joins to.

What it was depends on if the mummy next to Jack was just a regular mummy or a hunger starved torped kindred, given they both look rather the same.

Maybe we'll find out if we ever get Bloodlines 2, since it was implied the Anarchs were shipping something of a suspiciously sarcophagus sort to Seattle, during that old teaser prequel chronicle.

If you listen closely to what Johansen says, you'll realize that the mummy inside was probably the ghoul of a real powerful vampire in the ancient days.

Well probably, but were also dealing with somebody whose interpretation was largely based on kine knowledge, so unless we ever see that corpse again we can't say for certain. It could however imply Messerach is a Methusala, just an old gen 6/7, or old Lillith Cultist.

If you look at the imagery it could also be depicting the person pretended to be a god to acquire blood.

Jack is also the type of asshat though that would Weekend at Bernie's a torped kindred.

Why would you post this thread without, at the very least, letting people know its a spoiler??????
because it's an old game?
the title itself is obviously a spoiler alert.
because you cant spoil the plot of a game that came out back in the stone age.

That could very well be, because Johansen mentions Lamastu too, as inspiration for Lilith. I don't know if Lamastu and Lilith were real vampires in the WoD lore...

Honestly, my take on this and personal head cannon is that Messerach was just a regular human king, not a ghoul, not some ancient dessicated super-vampire, just a dead dried up human corpse.

Early Sumerian/Akkadian king records are well known to have all sorts of problems with dating that comes from the difficulties of their unique primitve mathematical systems which has led to some reigns being said to have laster over a thousand years and then once the faults in the math are figured out, turn out to be less the 70 years.

Now in the Old World of Darkness, yes some of these old kings and legendary rulers were vampires/mages/whatever else.

But honestly the sarcophagus not containing anything mystical mystical just makes for a better story if you ask me. Collective hysteria is a thing, and in the OWoD the fear of Gehenna was generating collective hysteria (independently of it actually coming or not)

And given that everything within the game can be explained without the need for the coffin holding an ancient super-vampire. I find that so much more interesting because it showcases the obsessive nature of vampire society in the wod and how it can be brought to absolyte fraying over things that are utimately worthless.

Regarding the massacre on the Dane, don't forget that Jack was originally a pirate. Honest to god swashbuckling Caribbean pirate. He's had plenty of experience attacking ships. There's no reason to think he'd have any issue slaughtering a whole cargo ship. Hell, it was probably a nostalgia trip for him.
