Need help installing mods.
So Ive modded plenty of games before, but this one has me really confused. I have no idea where I'm supposed to place any of the mods Ive downloaded, in particular the skin mods.

For instance I downloaded a skin replacer mod for one of the classes, and I have absolutely no clue where I'm supposed to be putting these files lol.

Skins Copy/Paste:

With the release of the Unofficial Patch 9.3, the Mod Loader was introduced/included. This allows the Unofficial Patch to be installed to the game, within it's own inclusive folder, without interfering with the vanilla/original game files (mostly). Some of the popular mods also have mod loader compatible install options. When utilized, the mod folders can then be found, as with the Unofficial Patch folder, residing in the Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines folder as:

"Unofficial_Patch"
"CQM" (Clan Quest Mod)
"cefinal" (Camarilla Edition)
(or similar)

Where installing models/skins are concerned, these new folders must now be considered as a surrogate "vampire" folder, where read in previous installation instructions and older readme files.

Example install paths:

(Vampire the Masquerade-) Bloodlines/vampire/materials/models/character/pc/female/gangrel/armor0

(Vampire the Masquerade-) Bloodlines/vampire/models/character/pc/female/gangrel/armor0

The "vampire" folders in the examples above, should be considered as XXX.

"XXX" =

"Vampire" folder, for vanilla install, Unofficial Patch 9.2 or earlier, or non Mod Loader compatible mod install.

"Unofficial_Patch" folder, for Unofficial Patch 9.3 or later.

"Name of mod" folder, for Mod Loader compatible mod builds. (CQM,cefinal,) etc.

Additionally : in order to successfully launch these mod loader compatible patch/mods,they must be launched from the desktop shortcut that they create upon installation, or, if launching from the Steam Library is desired, the launch options for the game need to be edited by:

Right-clicking on Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines in the Steam Library.

Choosing Properties, General tab, set launch options.
Adding "-game (name of folder)" (without quotes).

Example:
-game unofficial_patch
-game CQM
-game cefinal

Somehow, the obligation to explain this has fallen upon the skin makers themselves, rather than upon those that worked on the mod loader, which, as cool as it is, has inadvertently broken every the readme file or installation instructions, to every many, many, many skins packs made prior.

Thanks a lot for the explanation, I think I understand it now. I installed a skin and it seems to be working fine :).

I don't think this is true. The skins can be installed as usual in the main game folder, then they will be available for all mods. The only exception would be skins the mods change themselfes, in that case the skin pack would need to be installed into the mod folder.

That's true. The only time I remember seeing that mentioned was by Bergermeister, (I believe he discovered this after the Mod Loader was implemented?). So the only major mods I can think of that this approach would work with is maybe U.P. Basic...

I think that merely permitting people to continue to unknowingly install skins to the /vampire/ directory, would be inviting them to return to the file host page with a "mod dosnt works" post, and an irresponsible potential waste of their time.

Once again, Antitribu Mod 1.0 : five years in the making : five minutes on the install instructions.
How much time was spent, on these forums, and on the old Rava forums, helping people install the mod so whoever wrote those cheap ass instructions(I requested that they be clarified twice to no avail), which are also half hidden by Moddb ("readmore+"), could save ten - twenty - thirty minutes?

[Edit] Antitribu mod 1.1 instructions Vastly improved by Lenuska

I believe in attempting to do everything possible to minimize the amount of confusion and sheer number of repeat questions before they're asked, rather than repeatedly answering the same questions without any sort of gain of momentum.

The Mod Loader is only needed for making your own mods. It is in the Extras developers folder which you can select on installation to include or skip...

I'm been trying to do thing myself. I download mods and move them into the steam/bloodlines. the good news is no crash, bad news no mods.

really I just want to play the lasombra from P&P and 8 clans mod. but I have no idea where to put them. I also think there is more to it them just, copy and pasting into a file.

My steam vanella file only has gangel and tremere models files. I tried to change the tremere to lasombra but no luck

This one?
http://www.nexusmods.com/vampirebloodlines/mods/8/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fvampirebloodlines%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D8%26preview%3D&pUp=1

If so, Look at the tutorial in the comments section. But if using the Unofficial Patch, or major mod, install to the corresponding folder as explained above.

I don't understand. I have downloaded some new player skins. Do I place the folder as a whole somewhere? Or do I have to go into the mod folder and insert each component of it separately into different game folders? If so, that seems very messy and like it will be easy to lose track of what things are.

So, when you say this, "(Vampire the Masquerade-) Bloodlines/vampire/materials/models/character/pc/female/gangrel/armor0" Do you mean I have to go into the mod and insert each of these individual folders from the mod into the corresponding folder in the game directory? If so, if you have multiple skins that you'd like to swap between, how do you go about not getting all the folders mixed up between mods?

I'm sorry, I probably sound like a fool. I'm just new to this. I'm used to installing addons in games like WoW where there's a clear-cut "Addon" folder that everything goes into.

Edit: Fixed Typo
