Night at the Library

I can't even get past the first room of the library. I grab the vacuum tubes and activate the electrical box, but after it sparks I don't know what I'm suppose to do. It sounds like I'm just suppose to click on it again after it sparks, but nothing happens. I've reloaded a couple of times cause that usually helps, but it does nothing. Am I suppose to put the tubes somewhere else?

The tubes and box turn on the elevator. Prior to doing that the elevator in the basement room you sneak into isn't working.

I know that.
I grab the vacuum tubes after activating the box and click on the box again, but nothing happens.

Maybe this might have something to do with it (hell if I know anything about coding) but my journal still says I need to meet Beckett's contact, but I've already been to the pier and read the note. So maybe that could have something to do with it?

So I just reloaded an autosave and revisited the pier. Basically made my chick roll around in the blood pool and repeatedly read the note until it said journal updated. When I went to the library, grabbed the tubes, and then activated the box and let it spark, the little switch thingy beside it FINALLY had an activate option, so my elevator is working.
Morale of the story, I will never understand coding.

And before anyone says I just wasn't looking at the switch beside the box, I scoured every inch of the friggin closet. The switch was not usable until the journal updated.

Me too ;)! I don't understand how either of this could have happened. Reading the note should always trigger the log and the electrical box has no connection to the quest state whatsoever.
