FYI: Night at the Library, First Objective (Unoffical Patch 9.4)

Hey all:

In case anyone else gets confused: At least as of Patch 9.4 (possibly before), the Night at the Library quest requires you to go to the end of the Pier in Santa Monica to meet Becket's contact. To get to the pier, you need to go to the beach where the thin bloods are and walk up to the boardwalk, and then walk to the chain link gate (i.e. where the body was hanging to start the serial killer quest). That gate can now be opened, and if you walk to the end of the pier and look around, you'll find your quest objective.

This threw me for a loop, as previously the quest just started with you going directly to the sewer entrance, not finding this objective first.

Anyway, wanted to save people some looking around, as I was really confused for about a half hour today.

PS: Props to WESP for continuing to maintain the Unofficial Patch. My experience with this game has been pretty much bug-free (other than some clipping), which is a testament to how much work went into the Unofficial Patch.

Remember that there is an updated walkthrough included with the UP in the extras folder!

In the justification I can tell that I play this game for the first time, and infrequently met walktrough with the description of each step delivered with modification.
I manually corrected errors with Boris's dialogue and lack of a key for the museum, therefore assumed something similar here...

There should be a note beside some bench...

Which bench? I looked everywhere, but i couldn't find anything. Also, in the walkthrough included in the UP doesn't mention this first objective.

The bench is at the far end of the pier behind the buildings facing the open ocean. But you are right, the walkthrough talks about a trashcan. I'll update this...

Also, when I go to the pier, I finded two bugs. First, when trying to get to the Elizabeth Rendezvous, I jumped to the boat, but nothing happens. It didnt start at all. And, when going back to Santa Monica, the part when the transition should triggered was also bug, there was a yellow wall which say "trigger" o something like that, and when I walked through there, nothing happens. In both cases I had to restart the game from de original .exe (not the one with the patch, but from the game itself).
Furthermore, Heather Poe didn't appeared in my heaven after we talked, and when she did (after I start the game again with the original .exe and went to my heaven), she does not say anything.
They are not really big thing, but you might wanna look into it.

This looks as if you don't run the game from the shortcut the patch installed or are continuing older saved games from before patching!

I got the same problem. For the Elizabethean quest I was able to get around it by swapping saved games between the original and the patched game, but not for this one. I'm gonna try just heading for the sewer entrance in the UP game now *fingers crossed*.

Thank you for telling me how to do it. At the moment I'm in the museum quest so it's a bit late for it now. But I will try it next time I start over. I have also discovered some bugs. Like items disappearing from my inventory after a loading scene. If I'm lucky it is just some petty thing like a knife or something similar. But some things are quite annoying like losing teh occultish book in the Giovanni stronghold. I know I picked it up but because it vanished I couldn't trade it with Pisha. In the current game I lost the werewolf blood from the hospital in Santa Monica. I still had it when I was outside the pawnshop. Then it was gone when I was inside. I got so annoyed that I used the cheat codes to get a new batch of werewolf blood. Sometimes the game also freeze up during loading scenes and I have to quit with ctrl-alt-del. But aside from minor problems like those, I think it runs better than it did originally. I was one of those who bought it already back in 2004. So even if I haven't played it for a number of years until now, I do remember the big bugs, like crashing in the caves under the hunters monastery. That was really annoying. I would also like to revisit the Redemption game but Steam doesn't appear to have that one. Haven't played that either in years but I have some fond memories of it.

I have started to play as Brujah. First I did as usual and started it up from Steam. But after reading here I started it from the shortcut instead. This time I could get out on the pier but there was nobody there to meet up with. I have finished the warehouse quest and met with Beckett. I figured I had to meet him first before I tried it. Are there any specific quests I have to do before I return to the pier? Or do I do something wrong?
