There's Basic patch and Plus patch. Basic is the vanilla experience, just fixed, and Plus adds cut content and stuff. Choose the one you want.
You will need wine installed to install the patch. Just point it to the steam directory and it'll install everything. If you for some reason can't run the patch - the alternative is to use the WIndows machine (or windows VM) to install the patch, then copy the entire folder to your Linux install (overwriting everything). It will run normally then (i did this once, no issues).
Other than that, if you want the game to track your hours (because loader.exe i think won't), you can run it from Steam directly with the launch options:
Don't try to run it without the patch, only proton 3-something works with it, i tried it recently, and it's not pretty.
Basically, all you need to do is install the patch, and add the launch options.
