Vanilla versions will not even start on modern computers unless you limit the RAM or do some other complicated tweaking. Unless you buy it from GOG which has the patch included!
And you had no memory warnings or bad textures? It is known that Bloodlines has problems if the PC has more than 2 GB RAM!
It makes me wonder... is there something going on with the Windows versions since 8 and DirectX9?
I had no issues thus far without the unofficial patches (albeit, to be fair, I barely played the game). I will play the vanilla version in my first playthrough and once I finish it I might try the patch to see how it goes, at least to add new content.
If you are using dgVoodoo2 to get it running, it is not a native installation...
The UP has been used for years by many players. I've had the game since 2004. I'm not sure how many years the UP has been around but I've used it since it first appeared.
