I'm curious about how they compare regarding graphics, performance, stability, etc. From watching Mike's video it looks like he's trying to create an original game feel with what he sees as improvements in how things look.
Some love for the Standard Mod Patch
Standard Mod Patch, the new best way to play the game if you're playing it for the first time, or just want to truly experience how the vanilla was before numerous changes brought in by UP (Even in the Basic version), but not get swarmed by endless bugs and still have some quality of life tweaks!
As far as performance it will depend on a persons computer but on mine the SMP has a lot better performance and stability. There are a lot of reasons for this but the most important one is my decision to pack the mod files in a VPK archive in the same way the original game files are packed, and for the same reasons/advantages they are packed that way.
Cdcooley explains this better than I could, To pack or not to pack? BSA/loose files....[forums.nexusmods.com] talking about Skyrim BSA archives instead of Source VPK archives but the basics are all applicable.
Using the UP I generally am running into the need to close and restart the game every 2 to 2.5 hours. Where using the SMP, or Official v1.2, I rarely ever play for more than 3.5 hours at a time and don't experience the need to shut down and restart. I have gone as long as 5.5 hours in one sitting without issues. It is unknown to me exactly how long the SMP can be played without needing to shut it down but IME more than I play and more than the UP.
In the README I try to explain precisely what I consider a bug and the guidelines I try to follow for addressing those situations. The README can be accessed under the DOCS tab on the SMP Nexus mod page so people don't need to download the mod to read it.
I am trying to retain the function and features of Official v1.2, and I think I have. I am definitely not trying to improve on graphics, models, or animations, contrary to what has been suggested. Following the guidelines I laid out in the README graphics, models, or animations may be improved because there is some objective in-game evidence that they need to be fixed in some way.
At least two people seem to have gotten a positive experience from playing the SMP. But it isn't for everyone, some players say they can't tell the difference between Official v1.2 and the UP Basic except the UP is less buggy. Some people don't really care anything about the function and features of the game and their interest lies in other thing.
If a player can't find anything positive in playing the SMP then that is their experience, and if they can, same thing. Regardless the content is there in the SMP to discover, whether a player is interested in that content is a totally different matter.
That's good news wesp. Thank you.
