No worries. Enjoy :)
If you want to use this patch, make a new save. I've heard of all sorts of issues if you continue from an old save.
Although, if you install this new patch and do a playthrough - you can always re-run the patch installer later on and install PLUS CONTENT safely on top, if you wanted to do a second playthrough with restored content, changes, etc.
It wasn't removed. You've got the option to remove it by talking to Venus.
?
Nope. All mods use an earlier vesion of the UP - which is built into the mod itself. Installing the UP 9 will just mess up your game.
As such, I recommend a clean Steam copy that you should backup and use for mods, so you can just replace the old VTMB folder when you want to. If you want to use UP 9.1: uninstall from Steam, delete the entire VTMB folder in c:program files:steam:steammaps:common, and THEN install via. Steam and apply the UP 9.1 when the game's finished downloading.
I am trying to make myself a comprehensive lsit of where all of these books and items are, does anyone know what changes were made in 9.1 when it comes to that.
For instance, it added a new Occult item, Research text. Where was it added, what does it do?
The Plus version of the patch does indeed move many of the items' locations.
On the patch installer, there is a box you can tick which installs a folder full of walkthroughs, transcripts, etc. Re-run the patch using the same boxes you ticked as before but tick that extra box if you haven't to get those files. That walkthrough, found in the VTMB directory, should list where things are or how to acquire them.
As a reult I am thinking that either they are a very talented fan who managed to somehow understand the program and make this patch, or they are an ex employee of Troika who helped make the game all those years ago.
