Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

please tell me
that there isnt more of that awful mic recording of the police officer you run into at the beginning lol god that voice over quality is god awful. so far I love this game but that was a huge turn off lol its like they just got some random guy to record the lines through his early 2000 laptop mic x.x

That *was* a guy recording himself on a laptop mic. This isn't in the original game, this is only in the plus patch and was done by a fan/mod creator... The rest of the voice acting is consistent and good.

Yeah, the Plus patch added a fair bit of new stuff, and for the most part it's quite good (though I really don't recommend it for a first playthrough), but it does have certain limits. It's not like the creator is a professional VA, nor does he have access to high-end recording equipment. That limitation is going to show on occasion, particularly given the incredibly high quality of the main game's VA work. Other than the Plus patch content, though, it's fantastic work, especially for the period when the game was made.

The guard in the tutorial and one conversation on the Dane are all the fan voice-overs that the UP contains, everything else is high-quality Troika work...

I've just seen a lot that the patch is a must. so I figured, well the game is dated, what harm could it do considering I read most of what it was changing and it didn't seem too much for me to say, ehh maybe I'll wait. yeah I wasn't aware he added his own voice into it. that makes me feel much better about it lol I was just so into that first guy that helps you out and I was thinking 'damn this game has really got something special going on with it" then that happened and it completely side lined me haha. This game is fantastic! even for 2019!

Don't get me wrong, Jack is very likely the strongest performance in the game. Being voiced by John DiMaggio will do that. The rest of the official voice acting is still incredibly high-end, though. Don't get me wrong, I'm old-school, I'm fine with text-based dialogue in games without a voice to be found, but this game really showcases how much good voicework can add.

I knew I recognized his voice! I was like man that guy sounds damn near like jake from adventure time lol oh i know it! the voice acting is amazing. I wasn't expecting that much from such a dated, cult like, game.

There's actually a bunch of known actors doing voices for the game. And they're really profesionally done, part of that is why the game still holds up today, you can really believe the characters and their dialogue even if the graphics are a bit dated nowdays.

I almost didn't recognize him. I mean he had a few words he said that I was like "man that sounds like jake" but I kept listening and thinking nah this guys voice is pretty rough.
