can't climb into ceiling vents

for some reason i'm unable to climb into vents that are on the ceiling suddenly. i was able to do it before but now it's not working. i was doing the quest for larry to retrieve the briefcase and wanted to go through the vents to do it but whenever i tried to climb up the ladder and get into the vents, it wouldn't let me up into them.

i know you're supposed to jump up and climb into them but i can't move up once i get latched on to the grate to climb up. i'm just stuck there. is there something i'm doing wrong?

Same here, trying to do things like crouch jumping and putting boxes to stand on like hl2 but nothing lol. Even tried closing the vent as I was jumping and it did nothing. Lmk if youve found anything

i wasn't able to get into the vents :( i had to enable godmode and shoot my way through the parking garage, i'm still really bummed about it cuz i prefer to take stealth routes but you just straight up can't do it in this case

IIRC, some of those vents are for dropping down only. You must enter from the other end.

i tried every single vent i came across that had a ladder attached to it but none of them worked, none of the vents in that mission are climb in-able in my experience :(

it doesn't matter to me anymore tho cuz it's been several months since i beat the game i just wanted to respond to vaerminipherous' comment

i reloaded several times and had no mods, unless you count the unofficial patch?

no, like i said it's been months since i finished the game and i have no plans of returning to it ^^;;

i had this problem awhile back but i just kept smashing my face against the vent grill - am not sure what triggered it but repeatedly spamming jump-crouch eventually worked [basically i was frantic spamming buttons because the AI kept getting close to me as i flailed about]
suffice to say, when it did it again on the second vent i just went "sod this!" and just stealth-killed my way down instead

In case someone still has a problem with this - the solution is just NOT to jump at all.
Just climb up the ladder, turn over to the vent, open it and move forward towards it. You will start climbing up.

Do NOT jump!
