Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

Okay, for real. What's the deal with the heads?
The heads in this game are so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good looking. Like, everything else is kind of... Blah. But them heads, they look really nice. Insanely nice for the early 2000's. They even hold up well by today's standards. Smiling Jack's head alone looks leaps and bounds better then anything I've seen recently. It almost sets off my suspension of disbelief.

ye when games were older there was more of an art to it but i think blind hate in the current age also plays a massive factor in everything not all new games have bad face animations you just dont invest in games that did or try to. like all my friends like world war and medieval games but anytime a game come out with anyone of does themes its right to youtube reviewer who just suck 9.9/10 i cant even remember the last time i watched a review that wasnt a retrospective thats 1 hour long.

As far as heads go, absolutely. The hands though...

Unreal engine has aged well.

I'm pretty sure it has also received some graphical enhancements at some point.

Bloodlines runs on the Source engine which was famous for it's facial animations. At the moment I can't remember an Unreal engine game that comes close...

HL2 shares the engine and has the same features.

And for good reason. Everyone I shared Half Life 2 with were blown away by the facial animations back in the day. As was I.

VTMB's are even better. Cyberpunk 2077 in my opinion is the closest to replicating the high bar VTMB set in terms of facial animation and even that game falls short.

Its a real shame more AAA games weren't made with the Source engine.

Some of them looked nice. then you get to the Citizens themselves and things start to fall apart... But, I imagine a lot of that came down to hardware constraints for the time.

Remember too VTMB was unfinished when it was released.

No, I was talking about HL2's citizen's, not VTM:B. Bloodline's look really good. The old lady at the diner, she looks as good as G-Man does in cut scenes.

Oh absolutely. Definitely the main characters got more in HL2 then the random NPCs. I think in general as good as HL2 was, more love and care was put into VTM:B as a whole.
