How to add the unofficial patch to Steam
I see everyone says to add the patch to launch options but I do not understand how
to physical do this. I right clicked on the "play" button in the library but no options.
I started it from the desktop shortcut and under gameplay, it shows the unofficial
patch listed. I would like to launch it from Steam or Big Picture so I can use my
controller if possible.

Another way to find it is to right click the game in your sidebar and click "Properties", Launch Options should be there

I tried "-game Unofficial_Patch" and it can't even start a new game, let alone work with my current save

Install patch to CORRECT location on correct drive.
Test launch using patch shortcut.
Check Options Gameplay menu for "unofficial patch".

If patched game runs properly:

Try adding launch options.
Test launch using Steam Library Play button.
Check Options Gameplay menu for "unofficial patch".

If patch is still not working, it is a 99.9% chance that the problem is a result of human error, or an issue with your computer system.

Edit: A Microsoft Windows update, can also break it, but if that were the case, there should be many people having issues.

Copy/paste for convenience:

If you right-click on the game's name in the Steam Library list
Choose "properties"
"browse local files" tab
"browse local files".
It will open the game installation folder, and you should be able to read the folder path location in the address bar at the top of the window that pops up.

The installer will usually default to the "natural" Steam location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Your Steam install may be in a different location (another drive with a different "drive letter").

Run the patch installer.
If your steam installation's "Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines" folder, is not in the location (file/folder path) that the patch installer selects by default, use the installer's "browse" function to manually locate the correct install location for your PC (your Steam install, "Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines" folder), by navigating through the browse function window.

Be sure to always launch from the U.P. short-cut, or to modify the game's launch options, to ensure that you don't run/save the vanilla game and break scripts.

Hi, I installed the unofficial patch to the above directory and started up using the unofficial patch shortcut but the game doesn't start up correctly

@ Dredd

Look in your Steam directory's Bloodlines folder (\Steam\steamapps\common\Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines), if installed correctly, there should be an "unofficial_patch" folder now in there.

The "common" folder should be home to all/most of your other games, if only Bloodlines is in there, something's not right.

What are the symptoms?

yeah that sounds right about the common folder.
It wasn't loading up the main menu, getting stuck on one of the pre animations but it seems to be fine now, annoyingly i think I'll have to start a new game as my save just crashes

When i start a new game the cut scene doesn't play, it just loads onto a dark screen with the curser there and if I jump I can hear my guy jumping, I can't continue

I read somewhere that this might be due to some cloud saves. Make sure you delete all old saves before starting a new game!

yeah that worked for some reason

The issue was reported by a few people, in a relatively short period; don't know much about it.

Were you able to get the launch options working?
