Criminal Violation in diner (Bad Blood)

Are you always supposed to get a criminal violation (sorta unfairly after you were only defending yourself)? Sometimes I got it. Sometimes I didn't. I can't tell what made the difference.

It honestly depends on how long you take, and how much noise is made. That shotgun one of the bad guys has sort of speeds things up I think. Regardless I think you will always get a criminal violation there after awhile if someone has fired a gun. My memory is hazy since this was 10+ years ago, but I think I silently killed them all once, and waited a long time without getting the violation.

I'm confused. The attack starts with them shooting at me so there wouldn't seem to be any way to avoid that.

Obfuscate, walk to the phone. they walk around confused and either you can power them to death, or if your stealth and obfuscate is really high level you can stealth kill the lot.

Sadly this seems to be a common AI issue in Bloodlines. Cops in the hubs will also ignore if you are attacked by others but then attack you if you defend yourself!

I experimented and think I may have figured it out, (not completely sure). I think you have to answer the phone and get out of there quickly. If you linger then you get the criminal violation.

If you attack first it's an auto criminal violation. Let them attack you first

Tried that. First off I do nothing until I hear their guns and I make sure the more indicator says it's a combat zone.

I've tried being nice to Theresa and being sure she believes me about the necklace (requires persuasion), because someone said she's the one who calls the police.

I've tried avoiding any masquerade violations even though it's a combat zone in case there's a bug with that.

I've tried taking out the cashier in case he calls the police and/or putting him to sleep or just drinking him into a trance.

The only thing looking good right now is that you have to answer the phone and get out of there quick enough.

I'd been putting points into pursuade and was actually able to get the thugs to stand down, to my surprise. No fight involved, though the phone call still went the same way.

GTFO! I might have to play again and try that. ( I haven't actually played THAT many times, I just got obsessed with why the criminal violation and kept reloading and trying different stuff).

Yeah you can talk them down, but you'll need to talk to them before answering the phone, at least that's what I did, to have them leave. Made my session there simple XD Current save is mostly talking my way out of things.

I didn't get a violation on my most recent play, as a Brujah. Then again, I didn't use a weapon either, maybe that's why.

Odd, I've never gotten a Criminal Violation at the diner for this.

It could be that I tend towards using melee weapons and I've got this shiny new Fire Axe I found at the hotel that's just begging to be used. It could also be that (until recently), all my runs have been Malk runs, so I just use Dementation on the guy with the shotgun to put him out of play for a bit while I deal with the others, who only have the crappy pistol.

(I'm doing a Tremare run right now. I know I didn't just run up to them and used Blood Purge because I thought that because the old lady and the cook are not fighting, using Thaumaturgy there would be a Masq Violation)

i have avoided the cops waiting for me outside by running out of there quickly after killing everybody inside the diner.
