Re-implementing the Trip skill book exploit with the Unofficial Patch?
I knew the plus version disabled this exploit, but I didn't realize that as of 10.2 the basic version now also disables this exploit. I'm on my first playthrough (I know, it's an old game), and I'd like to have all the advantages I can, particularly since XP is limited and I don't know how much I'll be able to get to beef up my abilities.

The walkthrough bundled with the patch even mentioned this exploit, but didn't mention that it had been fixed (presumably because the walkthrough was written before it was fixed), and I had to dive into the patch notes to find this out. I can understand fixing it in the plus version, since it's specifically meant to rebalance certain aspects of the game, but the basic version is just supposed to be bug-fixes for a mostly vanilla experience. You can say this exploit is a "bug", but I tend toward the opinion that "good" bugs, particularly those that have to be deliberately invoked rather than triggered by accident, should be left as-is, unless you're specifically doing a rebalance.

Just use an earlier patch where it was enabled or, use the plus patch histories glitch to give yourself all the stats you want.

Or play the game like it was intended lol, it's not a hard game. :steammocking:

you can go into the vendors file in the unoficial_patch/vdata/systems folder and "fix" it. sometimes i have trip sell the flame thrower... day one.

or ya know... console... fake it.

Lol, this! I totaly forgot about the console! :steammocking:
Cause if you're gonna go through so much trouble of editing files just so Trip can sell you glitched skill books, then you might as well just use the console to give yourself XP and spend on whatever you want. :lunar2019grinningpig:

You don't need the Book Trick. It is way to OP. Learn to play the game within the game using your abilities, the setting, and your brain. IF you just want to cheese your way through the end game then book trick away.

What is the book trick anyway? Only recently heard of it.
Any why is that better than just using a console to give yourself XP, or using the histories glitch?

In the book exploit when you get a book, you sell it to a vendor and buy it back multiple times, as it magically will regenerate in vendor inventories. To fix this I just set the book price to 0 so using any editor to sell that back to a normal prize disables this fix!

It is very entertaining to see posts from people who pretend to know what they are talking about. How quaint.
However your information is incorrect: item values, including research books, and other stats are defined under "Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines\Unofficial_Patch\vdata\items".
For example: you can edit Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines\Unofficial_Patch\vdata\items\item_p_research_lg_computers.txt which is the "Computers for Grandma" book found in the SM hospital and change "item_worth" to whatever value you want. WESP5 even helpfully adds comments to all his/her changes.

Readers should report people who post fictitious solutions as those people are merely reputation farmers. They have no interest in helping anyone but themselves.

If you're going to cheat, just use the console...

You can sell them to Trip and not Fat Larry if you want to buy it twice

personally i discovered 2 fun things:
1st you can deinstall entire game everytime you do new run
run game with regular patch
buy your books and take sneak book
install patch plus and load the save
take another sneak book xD
2nd just give yourself EXP 9 after torturial (cause less bugs)
just make sure to spend them on:
computers +1
sneak +1
firearms +1
what are you doing around that schoolarship button?
