Toreador or Tremere for a first playthrough?
I've heard Tremere are good because of their powerful blood magic, but casting it makes you unable to do anything else while you cast and the enemies keep shooting you. And if you stun one person, again, you are busy waving at him for half the duration. And if it's a supernatural creature it's already recovered by the time you finish.

The Toreador sound good on paper, they are supposed to have great social skills, which will earn them more exp, which will make them stronger for what appears to be the inevitable tough boss fights at the end.

Am I correct in thinking that?

no, the powers activate very fast then you are ready to act. no stuck there while your power works. Tremere is probably the strongest clan choice in the game in the right hands. The absurd combination of dominate and thaumaturgy kills just about anything.

Blood blight is an area effect that effectively stuns entire groups of enemies for a short duration, absurdly good.

Toreador are very good at shooting in combat thanks to auspex and celerity, decent and in social (but nowhere close to ventrue with their in conversation dominate).

The easiest first play through is brujah because Potence+celerity allows you to pulp enemies to mush effortlessly.

Toreador

Those are good options but I'd say the Toreador might give you a more "standard" experience, while a Tremere funnels you more into spamming disciplines to clear areas. Bosses might be easier with a Toreador too, depending on how you go about it.

Toreador with max celerity, max auspex, max presence and a bunch of points into firearms will make all combat encounters a joke, especially bosses. It's so overpowered it's borderline ridiculous...

With a level 3 thaumaturgy on a fresh Tremere, you can use one ability twice on the first boss fight and win.

Tremere also have the ability to use blood magic in conversations, sometimes completely saving a quest you would have otherwise failed.

That is plus patch only though, right? And they don't use Thaumaturgy in conversations, they use Dominate just like Ventrue.

I'm sorry, I meant to specify it was Dominate. My point was its a crazy combination for first timers. And no, Blood Purge is vanilla. Its kinda busted.

I know what blood purge does, yes it's powerful, but you kinda implied you can use thaumaturgy (blood magic) in conversations, which is not ture, if you only ever level thaumatury, you'll get neat powerful combat magic, but you can't use that in dialogue. OP might be tempted to try this and be perplexed as to why it doesn't work. :steammocking:

In any case, all clans can dish out severe damage by the end provided you build them according to their strengths. So whichever clan OP picks is fine, just don't spend points into seduction for a Nosferatu or something like that and it's fine.

Lol I promise I only have the starting point in Dominate and manage to swing conversations just fine.

Do you have the plus patch installed? And how far into the game are you? Also, are you sure you're using Dominate and not just Persuasion? They're different, Dominate uses blood points to activate (and the cost of that is indicated by dots near the response), and has a red text. Persusasion has blue text.

Cause, different people require different levels of dominate. You can get away with 1 point of Dominate for a while, but later NPC's need at least level 2, and later lvl 3 in dominate. Dementation goes up to level 3 in Dialogue, not sure how far you can push Dominate in Dialogue.

I'm Downtown on my current playthrough, and yeah, I think I'm aware of the differences. Appreciate the explanation tho.

Personally I went for Toreadore, and I'm super happy with it. But if the magic part really, really interests ya, go for it.

Annnnnd I just saw your last comment, rip lol.

Either one is good for a first playthrough. Toreador's are the best gunslingers in the game. Tremere with Thaumaturgy and Auspex/Ranged are also very good. You just have to decide if you want to max Auspex/Ranged and have Thaumaturgy as back up or vice versa.
