Strange key binding reset
I hope someone can help me find some answers for this one. The game works perfectly fine, no bugs or glitches, everything in the right spot; except one thing. I customize my key bindings and every time I reload the game it resets to nothing... Funny enough its for the mouse. I change my attack to m1 and my use keys to m3 (middle mouse wheel button) and E. Everytime I start the game it resets though. It's just in convenient and wish I could fix this. I have the unofficial patch and the quest mod. Everything works perfectly fine.

So everytime I start the game up my key inputs for -attack- and -use- are wiped blank. I always have to change it back to attack to M1 and use to M3 and E.

Anyone know the answer? Thanks.

Take a look in the CQM/cfg folder and examine the config files (after changing them in game) with a text editor. The "autoexec.cfg" is probably re-assigning them to default upon start. If so, you should be able to edit the auto exec (it may be "read only") to default to your preferences, once you have determined the correct key-binds.

Thanks. I checked the cfg and clicked on the control notepad and it seems like all is in order (only my m1 and e/m3 are being reset) and so what do I change in the autoexec?

I don't have CQM installed currently, so I can't examine the files. I recommend that you make a back-up copy of your cfg folder and it's contents before proceeding.

Look in the autoexec.cfg, and see if you can find something like these:

bind "MWHEELDOWN" "invnext"
bind "MWHEELUP" "invprev"
bind "MOUSE1" "+attack"
bind "MOUSE2" "vm_discipline"

(these are from my unofficial patch configs)

Look for "MOUSE3" also.

If these bindings are in the autoexec file, and you can determine from your other in-game edited config (you might have to check it while the game is running or before it's launched again), what these need to be to have your "preferred" bindings, you should be able to add/edit them into the autoexec.cfg

Damn. It doesn't seem to work. I actually don't even know if I'm doing it correctly. I open the cqm file and click on cfg. I see my keys are actually matched to what I want. MOUSE 1 +ATTACK and MOUSE 3 +USE. I look at autoexec file and I only see a few lines...

cl_smooth "0"
cl_obfuscate_daylight "0"
alias detailfade "cl_detailfade 0"
alias detaildist "cl_detaildist 1200"
alias heal "use item_g_eldervitaepack"
alias afterbloodhunthealingscript "blood 1"
alias execonsole "exec console.cfg"

alias losecontrol "exec losecontrol.cfg"
alias wakeup "exec wakeup.cfg" etc.

Maybe burgermeister is using other cfg files as I use the user.cfg for the patch, so check all of them for bind commands!

@Wesp5
Yes, there is a "default.cfg", as well as about ten other config files if you select all options.

So, I installed Clan Quest Mod with all most of the options selected, and I'm not having any issues with the key binds. the changes made in the game options menu, are applied to the config.cfg upon exit of the game. And my changes are "sticking" after launching/loading the game.

I tested mouse3 with "use discipline" and "use" (turning on the television).

Do you remember the the exact installer options that you chose?

If your config.cfg is being changed after exiting the game, maybe you can try setting it to "read only) in the properties.

If the game is loading the default.cfg upon launch, maybe you could try editing it.

Ugh. Would the problem be that I'm still playing on 3.1? I see a 4.1 is out...would that be the case? *embarrassed*

I don't know, I see that there was a 3.1.2 patch for 3.1, but it doesn't mention the issue in the notes.

When the game is running can you see your edits in the keyboard controls menu?

Do your changes remain in the config.cfg after closing down the game?

Yes to both they actually do. That's what makes it so weird. In both Vampire and CQM config.cfg

I tried to trick the game by renaming a copy of my config.cfg, to "default.cfg" and replacing the default.cfg file in the cfg folder, then loading default controls in the menu. Although it did seem to change my config file, it did not carry over the mouse3 assignment.

I don't know what is causing the issue, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just something stupid.
I think we would waste more time trying to find the cause, than you will changing the keybinds manualy.

I agree. I bet it has to do with the type of mouse in conjunction with the patch. If not, maybe 4.1 will fix it. I think I am the only person with this issue. It's fun problem solving though.

I did a quick test of CQM 3.1 without the 3.1.2 patch, and it seems to hold the "mouse3+ use" setting correctly.

(unless the game crashes before the options have had a chance to be exported to the config upon exit.)
