If you don't like them, rebind them to what you want, there's not "best" control to use.
I play it with a Steam controller, you play it however you like.
Try ot out first, they're not that weird once you see how the gameplay works.
Play the game. You don't really, what's mapped is what you'll be using 99% of the time, other keys are just a bonus if you want, they'll never be essential to gameplay, just the mapped ones are.
Hehe don't worry it's no trouble. It's weird when half the mappings are missing, but yeah, the devs did that on purpose apparently cause the game only uses what's mapped. Others are just a bonus.
