Little help starting out

Really just started playing the game and i have a few questions that seem to baffle me.

How the hell do you feed? I grabbed someone at the very edge of one of the tunnels. The other humans were way far down the street. I still broke the masquerade. How to you feed without getting caught?

The other question is about the gallery. So i get a mission to slash the paintings in the gallery noir. Sounded easy enough but every time i slash one i lose blood. I keep slashing and slashing till im dry. Is there a way around this that im issing, and if not how much blood do i have to pour into these things to destroy one painting.

You have to pay attention to what the quests tell you. Look for clues in the dialogue and quest description, and pay attention to what characters tell you. Try to notice if there's a specific order or something you need to do to make it work, or some puzzle you have to solve.

To feed, it's tricky by design, but not too hard. You just have to be careful. Make sure no one is around in both directions. A tip I use is never feed near a corner of a street unless you check around the corner first. You also shouldn't do a full feed. I like to hit and run, float like a butterfly sting like a bee. Duck and move, take a few sips from someone and get outta there before someone comes, don't get greedy. You'll get the hang of it after playing more. You can at times feel like a real vampire, darting in and out of the shadows as intended by the developers.

For feeding - there's only a few "safe freding spots" in the entire game in the Masquerade areas. Everything else is a gamble and is so by design. So you have to be very careful no one is around. In Santa monica you can safely feed on the guy peeing in the allyway behind Asylum and a blood doll in Asylum club if your seduction is high enough. Other areas later also have a few safe spots. Everywhere else you need to triple check. Sometimes people seem out of sight yet they're closer than you think or have just come around the corner or something. You need to stalk your prey. Also there are certaun patterns where people walk so just pay attention to them and you'll get the hang of it. If everything else fails, there's the sewers.

As for the paintings, they tell a certain story in a chronological order. So you have to slash them in that order. Look at what the painting names are and aee if you can guess the order. I'd put it in the spouler tag and write it here but frankly, i don't remember how it goes.

Default feed key is F. You can feed off hookers if you pay them and lead them to safe spot. Every bar/nightclub (ok last round doesnt have) has a girl you can seduce if your seduction is high enough. In general seduction is a good way to get regular blood dolls. Those in bars/ nightclubs are always available after you succeed in seduction once.

You can feed off mortal mooks in mid-combat. In fact its my favored way of keeping bloodcount high. Activate abilities, kill all mooks except one, feed from the last one to full. But it depends on your brawl stat. Higher brawl = easier feeding on the unwilling.

Feeding off homeless might not work, since some have diseased blood. Also ventrue probably cannot.

In sewer tunnels you can feed off rats (unless youre a ventrue). They offer only a small amount of blood though but better than nothing. When you get to the Barrens those rats are really tasty..

It is possible to feed off on the street from random folk without breaking masquerade, but danger of being noticed is high. I dont recommend it.

Hospital has a blood bank in the basement you can buy blood from. Also Voerman sisters' ghoul, Vandal, who is hilarious because malkavian..

Don't forget to check the refrigerator in your haven for couple free blood packs..

Im downtown now and have improved a lot in my feeding. The only thing i did not complete in san amonica was the serial killer, never found any clues to catch them. Oh and i never got into that electronic store in the back allies.

You'll find a other clue downtown. And then later too, that quest is done across multiple hubs. You didn't mess up don't worry.

The serial killer quest spans several parts of the city. You cannot complete it in Santa Monica alone.
