So.. I never started the quest until i reached the downtown area but the corpse is gone now so i can't go find it to update the quest log and continue the quest after finding the wooden stake. What do i do?

If the corpse is gone, you will have to revert to an earlier save or start over. I never advance to a new zone until all quests (except those that carry over) are finished.

Nope I found the second murder scene and it continued the quest but with a different twist like "You stumbled upon the second scene" somethin somethin somethin and it let me continue from there lol
