Patch 1.1 - Custom Mode
Hey All,

Hope you guys are enjoying Dead Signal! - With that being said I am getting things lined up for Patch 1.1 - Which will have 'Nightmare' mode, and 'Custom Mode'.

Custom Mode - This mode will allow players to define their own variables, such as how many quota points are needed for each hour, what threats are active, how long is an hour compare d to IRL time, how many hours in a shift. and MUCH MUCH more - Including the option to 'Skip Hour' once the quota has been been met, which will introduce a way for speed runners to run the game.

With that being said, I plan on locking this mode behind defeating 'Nightmare' mode - BUT I thought I would get your guys opinion on this. Would you rather have it be unlocked after beating Normal mode, or Nightmare mode for that extra reward?

You should unlock it upon completing Normal mode, cause most people are probably just going to give up after two tries of nightmare
I guess normal mode is hard enough for unlocking this

Daaaaamn the custom mode sounds fun af please don't lock it behind nightmare mode, normal mode is hard enough:(

As much as I am terrible at very hard difficulties, I am managing with normal mode so I would hope custom would unlock by beating normal

Ehhh I don’t know really, I think there should be a reward in game for beating nightmare mode other than just a different ending. Normal mode seems a lot easier atm. I think a good way would maybe be having some options in custom mode be unlocked by beating nightmare mode to give some kinda reward for beating nightmare.

I would either lock Custom behind Normal or maybe not at all. I think Dead Signal is so "popular" and well-accepted because it's way easier than your previous game. Custom could increase the replayability of players even more. If you lock it behind Nightmare only the die hards would play it and not the average player.

Would be nice to know, in which way nightmare is harder than normal. If it is a big jump, then custom mode would be a great way to approach nightmare step by step by ramping up the values slowly, instead of facing everything at the same time.

Unlock after normal would be fun so more people get to experience it.

First: Understand youre sensitive about cheating, but no saving is no go for me and Im sure I mont alone and it would be such a shame

I like it being behind normal as well. Will give the player the option to choose a custom difficulty or the curated increased difficulty. A lot of horror speedruns are done on easy - would allow more people to participate in different styles of runs without beat nightmare.

I would agree with this opinion. I would also not lock under any mode. I think the Custom Mode should be accessible to everyone instead of hardcore players. While Normal mode is easier now, it would still severely limit the amount of players who could try this.


And regarding what extra rewards could be for beating Nightmare mode: not precisely sure but it should not be gameplay-wise. Excluding the new ending and Steam achievement, I would probably add a small environment asset for any future gameplays (rough examples: a trophy or confetti). In other words, something simple that does not require any animations or logic to add.
