Differences:
- Majesty is set in a magic realm. Rimworld is set on an alien planet.
- Majesty is about hiring heroes who have their own personalities. Rimworld is about recruiting people, who have their own personalities, but varied stuff.
- No voices in Rimworld saying things like "tax collector" or "i am melting". That flavour from Majesty is sorely missing in RW.
- In Majesty your subjects have their own mind and you cannot control them. In RW, you can control and micromanage the people - e.g. for fighting or forcing them to wear specific gear.
- Majesty was about different maps and you followed a story moving from map to map, RW is an open sandbox.
I too have been searching for a similar game as MTFK. Unfortunately no game scratches that itch. I have tried Rimword, Oxygen Not Included (nearest to a sim where you do not control the characters), Driflands (really boring), etc. Nothing comes close.
well damn then
Seems solid. Let's wait.
And one more:
King's Reign
It also has very cheesy voice sound bites.

It's more like Settlers, and so far I am quite liking it.
- There are production chains you need to satisfy. e.g. Farm -> Mill -> Baker
- The roads are made automatically as your villagers move around.
- Loads of buildings. And some unique mechanisms with the buildings where you can design your own layout - e.g. for Church / Fort etc.
This is called RTS with indirect control. Look in the search engine for this sub-genre. There were quite a few strategy games like that back in 00s.
Settlers, Alien Nations, Cultures, Knights&Merchants. Even some exotic, like From Dust.
Also, as not-so-related suggestion. Stronghold: Legends is kinda cool, and might scratch an itch for a fantasy kingdom game.
Unfortunately we don’t
