Report a translation problem
I think the only PC game that had an ad for it on the back of the instruction booklet were Caesar 3 and one of the Mech Warrior games. Other than that I think I only see people play it after word of mouth.
Majesty 2 feels like they were advertised on the back of a LOT of Paradox Published PC gameboxes / manuals in the later 2000s, Usually it had a double AD putting Maj2 and Elven Legacy together.
My problems with Majesty 2
Objective Reasons
Incomplete Translation (especially for expansion mission briefings)
Offmap Attack Waves and Lair spawn speed can bug out to be more frequent than intended
Nostalgic Reasons
Hero indepndence is toned down
Awful Numbers bloat, especially in levels with bosses Maj 1's final boss still only had 500HP
Missions in the second half of the game revolve around "Temple" Heros, while Majesty 1 didn't really have such a strong tier system between it's basic heroes and temple heroes.
M2's Colorful WoW-esque art is fine, but not terribly unique since lotta games did that while the kind of early 3D models in Majesty are evocative in a way that reminds me of only a few other games, mainly Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
I'm willing to defend the Warlock game's as being worthy of (Some) nostalgia, but M2's a bit of a mess. If It weren't for my personal bias, I think I already have to put in a "Majesty 1 has a uneven and big spikes in difficulty" warning when I recomend it to new people, but Majesty 2 has like 10X the problem --- The 4-9th missions all feature vicious earlygame rush type map designs, the expansion content (especially Kingmaker) is even more obscene.
Majesty 1 actually fun
MFKS is mostly a sim game. With heroes having their own personalities, and being wildly different. Which did lead to balance problems between them.
MFKS2 heavily invested in Multiplayer (for some reason) which sadly meant it changed into a RTS with indirect control. Characters were very similar, except their cost and stats, to make them better balanced against each other in PvP. However this costs in singleplayer, which I think most MFKS players play.
So they were trying to 'improve' on the things people didn't care about, thereby damaging what they did. Resulting in massive dissapointment from original players.
M2 is like someone offering to cook you a meal based a recipe your grandmother used to make. The main ingredients are mostly there, and if you'd never eaten what your grandmother made, you'd probably think it was pretty good. But somehow it doesn't quite come together in the same way.
Majesty two is a "tower defense arcade" mascarading as a fantasy kingdom sim. Narratively the story is improved. Graphics? improvement but also different direction. The heroes are shackled to their buildings where before paladins (or any class) can and will venture to the other side of the map without prompt from you.
Animals acted like animals in one. Two? all enemies (with a few boss like exceptions) RUN at you with intent to kill.
In One i could build up a small kingdom and watch the life of Sir Brian and, once done, wrap up the game. In Two? it is business; better fortify now or you won't make it and good luck getting any help without the money for bounties...
And while Majesty: Fantasy Kingdom Sim simulates heroes playing Dungeons&Dragons RPG - Majesty 2 thrown that core idea out of the window. Majesty 2 also killed chances for the continuation of a series.
Also whole idea behind nostalgia is BS. Video games don't age.
Obviously, due to nostalgia, I STRONGLY prefer Majesty 1. But I'm not so blinded by nostalgia I can't see that Majesty 2 clearly improves on many things.
are you saying that out of spite because you don't like the developers?
I do like the way parties can be formally created in M2. I can't think of much else that I think is *better* than the original Majesty.
