Cheers the vsync on & off worked wonders
you should try to build a guild and summone some nobles
I restarted about 10 times before getting a build sequence that worked. Destroyed by rats sooo many times.....
In that way you have only to worry about the monsters around you.
Save the game once the mages guild is up and load the game every time a mage dies. Once the mages are level 5 or something, they will be less squishy and take care of most of the rats for you. By then, the market place should have given you enough money to build a second guild, which were clerics in my case. Afterwards I buffed the ranks with cheap heroes like rogues and scouts.
Then Ranger Guild, another tower, then I've made healers. Then mages, last was warriors, but by that time I've had a fully upgraded base with 2x guilds each.
Did the mission on the first go.
