requesting Class suggestion
Did i play this game wrong? Because I destroyed the base game with a Murder-hobo face tanking High Thaumaturgist. Or do all the classes become ridiculous like this after level 20? I am having a hard time seeing it if they do.

Sooo... I would like to request a fun class(not Arch-mage) that could be interesting :D Thank you.

Preference, Ranged(Not Archer)

if its too easy for you i would suggest going for a higher Difficulty. Nightmare is only marginally harder i think as the difficulty kinda gets canceled out with the increased Items you get. Maybe try Cultist of Entropy on Nightmare next, i liked that one, its a fun mechanic. and then go for Insane runs.

Complete the game in Nightmare mode to unlock Insane mode, then complete the game in Insane mode to unlock Madness mode.

Start a new game in Madness/Roguelike mode, and that, my friend, is when the fun begins.. :steamhappy:

Fair statements. thank you for the suggestions. Lets see if my build is still as broken as i think it is :D .... i sense death in my future. :)
For ranged characters:

I like writhing one , it's basically a tentacle monster , throwing around big damage attacks at a medium distance with your own tank summon "Worm that Walks" to keep things at range. Most the attacks are tagged melee but they have decent ranges 3-5 7-10 (range 7 tendrils eruption is mainly what I used), they also use your melee weapon for the calculation It's a strong class though so you might need to turn up the difficulty to make it a challenge.

Skirmisher is interesting with poison interactions but likewise it's probably too easy to win with unless you bump up the difficulty. It's a sling user with a shield , good at killing other ranged units , you said no archer but with poisons this one doesn't feel like a plain archer.

Temporal wardens are like a mix of magic , swords , bows and summons but you can ignore the parts you don't like , they are mobile so staying at ranged should be easier but they can be tricky to play at first.

All that said melee isn't bad , you might feel like it is because of needing to slowly move toward an enemy just to begin attacking it , meanwhile a ranged character can attack right away but there are many techniques for closing the gap (this applies to enemies as well so your ranged character might end up in melee range frequently anyways).

There are movement infusions or having a little bit of movement speed on boots , techniques like Rush , Leap and more specialized ones depending on the class , melee is just as good as ranged so give it a try once in awhile.

There are a TON of classes , some of them are very strong some are tricky to play but actually not that strong so if you want something interesting or challenging there are a lot of options, unlocking them is part of the challenge but there are guides to help.

This one has less spoilers but might still spoil things. https://te4.org/wiki/Unlockables_(Reduced_Spoilers)

and the other just bluntly tells you how to do it spoilers and all https://te4.org/wiki/Unlockables

i think playing on Insane is the way to go. its hard but not unfair to the point you need to resort to bugs, savescumming or similar tricks in order to win. Madness is just plain unfair that isnt even possible on some Classes.

Every class can start steamrolling the game after a certain point, even on Insane difficulty. Assuming you know how the class works and how to patch its weaknesses. Some classes are significantly easier than others to pull this off with though. Your Beamlord Arsemage is a fine example of a class that can easily destroy the game (I got several wins with one myself).
I can recommend to just try them all out. Learning what classes are capable of will also help you deal with enemies that have one or more classes themselves.
One of my personal favourites is Temporal Warden. It's the perfect melee/ranged hybrid and there are a lot of different ways to build one.

Thank you, i find your post very helpful. i was wondering if each class was capable of similar strength as the arch mage was. after about level 35, i started feeling bad for the game. lol. knowing that i can build each class to be a powerhouse if i understand it well enough is comforting. Thank you.
Throwing Knives Rogue. Basic throw knife attack don't break stealth and can apply poison. With shadowstrike talent you autocrit with every attack. Later, when you have lots of +nature equip it shines with poisons. Volatile posion + leeching posion + toxic death = big boom chain reaction. It can clear rooms full of enemies with one knife throw. And as you don't level mele talents you can invest heavily in traps and tools.
If you will go to assasination tree keep in mind that garrote can be applied with throw, but it will break stealth

Assuming you have the Embers of Rage DLC, try Gunslinger. It's a fun class (for me, at least) where you could dual-wield steamguns and feels like a cowboy coming from the Wild West.. :steamhappy:

I'm overly fond of stone warden. here have some ai words

The Stone Warden is a unique class in the game Tales of Maj'Eyal. This class is exclusively available to Dwarves and combines both arcane and nature powers. Stone Wardens are armored fighters who dual-wield shields to channel their abilities. They can split themselves into two powerful halves, summon volcanoes, and even transform into huge earth elementals.

a copy of myself one shotted me my last go. still working on unlocking others via the hard difficulty for no reason. writhing one is probably my most played followup. this stuff isn't ranged ? oh well
So long as you have the expansions the annihilator is pretty cool: crazy amounts of damage and ways to deal damage, at range and a series of mechanics that are very different from the arcmage.

No face tanking though- arcmage is (perhaps ironically) one of the most sturdy classes as long as you don't get your shields dispelled, and while the annihilator gets 1/2 damage thanks to power armour their low HP means that if they start getting bashed about things are going to go south fast, likely reliance injectors + healing injector taking a turn further limit 'facetank+heal' options.

When you eventually unlock death from above you'll be laughing to yourself when your moving at +300% speed firing off area effect rockets, which create deadly mist, which you can then turn into cones of doom, then laying large area fire down with your flamethrower, then spiriting away with your rocket boots while you leave a few turrets to distract the enemy so that you can rest a bit and repeat the process.
While its not hard, I recommend trying out Human AM-Brawler with SpellHunt Remnants its incredibly fun.
