Progression
I know it's rogue-like, but is there a sense of progression. For example, if you did do you keep all the spells you've learned, loot and experience, but just have to start over?

thanks

You unlock more classes and some talent trees by playing.

A character, after beating the main campaign can enter the infinite dungeon.

If you want you can make use of the item storage to trade items between your different characters.

I hope this answered your question.

The talent trees definitely make it more involved than, say, NetHack. Here's the list for the Berserker: http://te4.org/wiki/Berserker

to reinforce what dekar said.... unlocking more races and classes is linked to ingame achievements of varying difficulties. it's extremely satisfying to gain these new classes, and as you start to experiment with them you realise that there is a huge variety in the classes, and each plays so differently that its almost like a different game with each class. Once you see this is true, there is a huge motivation to work towards the achievements/unlocks for the different classes/races. I found that there is a wonderful feeling of progression in unlocking the races and classes in the game.

further still.... each and every class is brilliantly designed so that there are a variety of possible 'builds' .... there is a very satsifying feeling of progression here as well, each run/death gives you more knowledge of how to better build your character the next time... then you throw in the unlockable skill trees, the item vault, figuring out the 'best' of the various race/class combo's, and the progression in learning about the zones/challenges in the game and being better prepared for them on each run, and you have a huge amount of depth - hours and hours of high quality entertainment with a constant feeling of progression.

I will echo what those above have said and add that there are also skill trees that you can unlock for certain classes. For instance, Wildfire can be unlocked by dealing 1 million cumulative fire damage across all your characters. After unlock, it's permanently available for the Archmage class.

Here's a list of unlockables.[te4.org]

As you play, you'll slowly start unlocking new races, classes, skill trees and other options. It takes a lot of effort to get everything unlocked.
