To the OP, if you're new, there's a lot of better classes, especially for the mage warrior archetype, like Shadowblade or Temporal Warden.
Yeah tell that to all the big tier list makers then, arcane blade is always A+ tier and always has been, its not "clunky" its just something people have to play properly, sure for a beginner its not the best choice, but he clearly stated that its a "relatively weak" class, so I assume that he had some sort of experience because said comment, I only corrected him, so back off.
But yeah, go ahead and just show him the other hybrids, like that's a better choice, lets have him play temporal mage or archmage next, or alchemist on insane.
Shadowblade and Writhing one are way easier though. I play on nightmare so far(
This is partly why a lot of people just write off Arcane Blade as "weak" or "sucks" because they have such a hard time living to ~20. However, if you do make it to ~20... you can snowball really hard and dish out massive damage.
Personally, I have never won with an Arcane Blade on Insane/RL but I have come close a few times. It's a tricky class to build since, IMO, it's a melee glass cannon. As ZirzoR says; there's a reason it is an A Tier class among highly experienced players.
You spend too much time looking at tier lists made by ppl who do nothing but play this game all day long. And it is clunky. That's the exact reason it is only good in the hands of experienced people. It's a weird class that doesn't even play like a magical fighter should, but instead it has the finger poke of doom, and few other close combat orientated talents or strategies. It has insane resource management problems. It spends mana at an irregular rate for offense, but also needs it for all its defenses. You can accidentally drain yourself with a lucky chain of melee casts, only to be left with nothing for defense. It needs to give up an inscription slot for manasurge, and even that doesn't work well. It has low mobility, very few non-mana based defenses, etc.
By comparison the other hybrids I mentioned, Shadowblade and TW, are much easier. And TW is absolutely broken, everyone agrees on that.
I already said my piece, OP clearly wasn't giving the "I'm a total noob" vibe when he makes comments like that, I was going off on that part, if that was wrong then I stand corrected.
I dont spend too much time looking at tier lists, I looked at each one, one time, and that's enough for me to remember them, the concept here is that the class itself is good, not "relatively weak" as OP stated, that is the only point that I wanted to get across, it has nothing to do with experience or how skilled someone is at the game, its just that the class itself is strong, just like any hybrid.
You dont have to teach me how arcane blade works, I play this game you know, its like you assume that I dont know my stuff or something and then rants about resource management and other meaningless drivel.
All classes that use mana have a "mana surge tax" so I dont know how that is relevant to the topic at all.
This is pointless, I'm not responding to this again.
You don't really show that you know how to play AB from what you're saying here. Also SB can remove their surge rune as soon a they get their mana regen talent, and never look back. You really don't seem to have any actual, play-tested knowledge of this game.
