What does it mean to link an item in chat? And how do I assign "use an item" (such as the Rod of Recall) to a hotkey?
No idea what this does...

Seems like I can assign items to hotkeys by equipping them and unequipping them, but that seems suboptimal, and I don't think I can even equip the Rod of Recall... would be nice if items with special activated abilities showed up on the "m" key talents list screen!

Use your mouse. Drag them to the talent bar. Presto, now item is in the hotbar. There's probably a way to do it just keyboard, but that's most expedient to me. Most items that are usable do have to be equipped though. The Rod of Recall is an exception, not the rule, and you'll find yourself wasting turns to equip torcs, rings, and weapons that have abilities that you do NOT have equipped, using a turn to equip them, then looking at that cooldown when a monster's eating you. Make sure if you're going to be using a torc of psychoportation, that it is equipped before you need to teleport.

And linking it in chat is exactly what it says, it shows a link to the item, in chat. So you can discuss it or brag or whatever.

Oh, cool, I didn't realize you could just drag them! That was probably explained in the tutorial or something, but there's so much stuff in there I must have forgotten :)

Heh, now I feel like such a noob for accidentally linking my "rod of recall" ;)

No worries on the linking thing. So many people will accidentally link a variety of items when trying to transmogrify them. It's kind of second nature for most of the chatters to ignore a linked item unless the user comes on right before or after and says something about it.
