Any way to fix a broken chat?

Hey, all. Last few months I've been without chat and it's really degrading my ToME experience. Upon launching the game, chat is up. But after 30 sec to maybe 2 min it just goes guiet. No new entries in any channels apart from game log, and I can type a message but it probably doesn't reach the chat.

Is there any setting I can tamper with, or file I can delete locally that will fix this. Sucks playing without the chat, miss ya'll :P

I have had similar issues. I know chat itself didn't go down, usually, because the chat is still up on the website. If you dual monitor, you could use the website on the secondary monitor, but that's a conditional workaround.

Sometimes, going into options and turning off and on the chats works, but not always.

I'd like to know a solution too, since it effects me a lot too.

Never tried turning on and off via settings, will give that a go next time. Thanks for the tip. All other hints are welcome!

Generally, logging out to the main menu and logging back in is the most reliable method of reestablishing the connection. Quite often, however, there's simply nothing to be done on your end (servers are overloaded or otherwise down at that time).

The things that bugs me is that this has not happened before to my recollection. I've got 320 hours in this game. And perhaps in the last 20 hours (which is 1-3 months back in time) this started happening consistently when I start the game. I don't get 5 minutes in before the chat just goes quiet.

Unless there's been a severe influx of players, I don't see how the servers can suddenly be overloaded or down. Additionally, as Jackson above said; the te4.org page displays chat as usual so it cannot actually be down. The problem must be on my end then... I might try reinstalling.

It has happened a LOT in my recollection. Chat server issues are part and parcel of ToME for a long time, now (years).

Yes, it can be on either end. Yes, it's most often the ToME servers.
