Second, you get a bunch of arcane resist when the storm goes off, so it's pretty easy to survive, especially since your mana bar is full at that time. Worst case scenario, cast time prison on yourself, and because it's not counted as a status effect, by the time you come out, the storm is over. However, more likely you can just put a shield on yourself and use the fact that you have more arcane resist than anything else nearby to your advantage.
Finally, if you do it right, you'll almost never get your mana up to full on the first turn in a fight. Just make sure you get a bunch of mana, and max out disruption shield and shielding from the aegis category. I also recommend the skill aegis, since it will effectively boost your maximum mana for a short time, which can be pretty useful.
That's correct. :) Happens with other sustains that require a resource as well.
