Recommended Mods?
I'm just going to start playing for the first time. I'm wondering if there's any recommended mods. Not as in things that will make it easier for me. But things like QoL stuff and things that blend into the game without being some giant thing.

ZOmnibus Addon pack is a pretty solid addon for adding lots of convenient mods to the game.

This thread pops up a lot.
I recommend Zomnibus for various reasons, or the individual components.
And Nekarcos QoL #1 (effect display) is just wonderful.

I would recommand no mod at first.
Afirst impression of a game should be vanilla but that's my personnal opinion.

One of the mods for the Infinite Dungeon ("ID500," for example) is nice to have.

For quality of life mods, with no change to balance:
Nekarcos QoL:
- 01 - effect display is good, unfortunately buggy with latest game version.
- 05 Various Fatal Warnings: mainly warns when moving loses a turn
- 06 Turn Delay: shows various actions, I turn most off in options, but its handy to know who casted what.
-07 Visible size categories: Not really QoL but looks cool, some bugs though (stores will overlap large characters, your image disappears when changing zones, tiny creatures can be hidden behind terrain). Mainly if playing possessor or if you like large dragons.

Other QoL addons; Improved combat Text, Tinker Tinkering, Improved Auto-explore and rest, Show Item tier in inventory, Equip Doll - clean item names, Easy map v2, Turn separators (this just adds a line in the log), Possessor Tweaks (required for playing the class - informs which talents you can actually use).

Game changing addons:
More Taints, ID leveling after main company (if you don't want to use ID500 but still want to level past 50 when entering ruined dungeon), Select first Escort, Steam Arena (adds steam items to arena shop)
More Experience with High(er) Level Enemy (would only use this in ID, makes your XP progress much faster).

I haven't had any issue with it, what were yours?

Just minor things like effects not going away, only happened once so far, so it could've been a mod conflict

Yes, or maybe just add Turn Separators to make it littlebit easier to follow what happening.
