Similarly, one of the addons adds a slightly smaller separate campaign meant to be played with separate race/class combos. Both campaigns are basically over when you do the final bossfight, but theoretically you can stay and do "stuff", although without respawns the options are limited.
Lots of dungeons are optional, although you might be "forced" to do them because you need the exp, loot or whatever.
It's just most games use it to describe those sandbox type games that have really nothing except bashing the dull infinitely scaling enemies in an empty randomly generated world that is even more dull.
Or on Linux it's a one click install as it has been since the project started. But I understand a lot of people might not be used to such freedom.
I just highly recommend this game in general. If you're still on the fence you can check out DarkGod's website te4.org . You can download the base game, with no DLC, for free. So there is literally no risk what so ever.
