Advice for surviving Nightmare as Rogue?
Hi all,

I enjoy the Rogue class, especially as a debuff-stacking rogue. It works quite well against melee-based enemies, but I consistently get crushed by spellcasters, especially the ones that can debuff effectively.

Any advice? I know many people go with the traps/devices route, but I'm not really a fan of that approach. I've tried going with the stealth approach instead of survival, but I end up just being even more of a glass cannon.

I'm not sure if there's a better way of posting builds, but here is what I had in mind:

Generic Talents

Race / Halfling

Luck of the Little Folk 1/5
Duck and Dodge 5/5
Militant Mind 5/5
Indomitable 2/5

Cunning / Survival

Heightened Senses 1/5
Device Mastery 1/5
Track 1/5 ** if I can get the Rogue escort, I'll just skip straight to this and save the three points, and put them into Evasion 5/5

Technique / Combat training

Thick Skin 5/5
Heavy Armour Training 1/5
Light Armour Training 5/5
Combat Accuracy 5/5
Dagger Mastery 5/5

Technique / Mobility

Disengage 1/5

Aura of Silence 2/5
Antimagic Shield 5/5

Class Points:

Technique / Duelist

Dual Weapon Mastery 5/5
Tempo 3/5
Feint 3/5
Lunge 5/5

Technique / Dual techniques

Dual Strike 5/5

Cunning / Poisons

Apply Poison 5/5
Toxic Death 5/5
Vile Poisons 5/5
Venomous Strike 5/5

Cunning / Lethality

Lethality 5/5

Technique / Combat techniques

I'm not best rogue EU but I'll try to help <3

Early on, just hide behind corners or roll a good regen/shielding infusion. You shouldn't really be dying to casters in first 8 levels.

Few levels in,
1: get some mobility - movement infusion, tumble, heartseeker, Rush boots, anything that will let you get away/close distance as Rogue doesn't have baseline Rush as Shadowblades do.
2: Get status clear! I most often run Physical/Mental Wild.
If playing Undead I usually roll a class that has in-built status clears (Sun paladins ho!). Stun/confusion/daze WILL kill you if you don't have any clear.

If you go stealth route, around levels 15,16 you should be able to have it good enough for casters to miss their nukes at long range.

Don't 5/5 everything. 4/5 is enough, except maybe for Dagger Mastery.

Rogue's strongest nuke is Exploit Weakness + Flurry, you'll deal absurd amount of damage with attacks after Exploit Weakness.

To inflict debuff, use Dirty Fighting first. It makes your debuff less likely to be shrugged.

Keep Numbing Poison and Crippling Poison active. Constant damage reduction and talent failure are pretty good to keep dangerous rares helpless.

I can write more, but I'll keep it few for now. Rogue is pretty complex.

Traps are terrible you are right not to use them. Also avoid stealth. Artifice will get you to the end game but they are lackluster past mid game, hidden blades does get better later on though. One thing you can do(although tedious) is build a zig zag tunnel in each new area so you can fall back and fight everything one by one.
