SPOILERS: Class unlock?
How do I unlock the brawler class? After reading up on it in the wiki it seems like a playstyle I'd really enjoy.

Well, the wiki also tells you how to, but OK:

Make a character you can get to level 13 or so, on the world map look for a place called Hidden Compound (it will look like a grey mound with a cave entrance). You'll need to fight through two levels full of mages and mind controlled slaves. On the third level you'll see a dude with a huge head, talk to him, then look for the red control orb. You can use that to play a game that costs 150g each play, mind controlling a slave in an arena fight. If you lose you can replay till you win. Winning unlocks the brawler class.

The game itself is pretty easy, but you'll note that you start with a few stat points so press p and put them in either Dex or Con for the defensive boost. Sit back behind one of the pillars you starts at and let enemies come to you. Check all of you skills first, make sure you are using striking stance and heal when needed. I play this game way, way too much and I think I have only ever lost twice due to really hard spawns in the fight.

Also of note, winning this arena gives a fantastic ring, one of the best items in the game.

Or you can check the workshop, there's a mod that unlocks all classes and races.

Oh man I didn't know about that mod, thank you! And yeah I looked on the wiki but it only told me their stats, not the unlock guide. I figured it just was meant to prevent spoilers but it's entirely likely I missed the unlocking part.

You *may* eventually regret using an unlocker mod; that's where nearly all of the progression and sense of accomplishment from ToME comes from, for many people ^^'.

To each their own; I'm not mocking you, just suggesting you might not want to do it.

No I get you, and I think my sense of accomplishment will be from actually permanently unlocking them. The mod that I found allows the generation but doesn't actually unlock them, so that gives me incentive to try to "get them for real" while still being allowed to make class and race combos at the start. Thanks again!
