Recommended Addons
I feel like I'm ready to start playing the game with addons, but I really don't want anything that adds content or removes restrictions. I strictly want QoL addons, like UI and features that make the game easier to digest but not easier in difficulty. Hope that makes sense.

I find it difficult to search for addons on the main website, not sure if I'm doing it wrong or what.

Also, what do I lose by playing with addons? Will potential victories be invalidated? Or does it just do something passive like informing viewers that "such and such addon" was used during play? I've never been able to find a clear answer on this.

Thanks.

Addons don't invalidate anything, you can use cheat addons and still register your wins.

Here is the most important QoL imo (only one i can't play without anymore) displays a lot of different effects on player/npc : https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/neka_qol01a
And here is a pack of great QoL (imo most useful are enhance compare, item shortcut and restart sustains) : https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/zomnibus-addon-pack
There is also a light version of this if you consider some parts to be more than QoL (like patrol avoidance or alternate zone totally are, but i just don't use them) : https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/zomnibus_lite
And you can also just dl individual parts of the pack if you prefer.

Both nekarcos and zomnibus are on steam iirc

Those are both incredible, I'm definitely using them next playthrough.

Quick question, do the enhanced compare addons in zomnibus allow you to compare items in your inventory to your offhand weapon? Always thought it was weird you couldn't and I didn't see any indication that those allowed you to? If not, is there an addon you know of for that?

A few more recommendations, I think you can get these from the workshop but I'll give you the website link as well:
Showing Item Tiers in Inventory: This is a small thing but it really speeds up looking over gear, especially if you are using tinkers in the main campaign.
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/inv_tiers

Demon Seed Details: This is just for Demonologists (and I guess some Adventurers), it gives you better information about the demon seeds. This addon is a bit buggy and you will have to open and close then open your inventory again to make it work. But it really speeds up demon selection.
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/demon-seed-details

Cross-tier Luminescence: This changes the Luminescence debuff from physical to cross-tier. While it seems small this change greatly reduces the frustration of the early levels when you are getting dog piled with physical debuffs and only have 1 wild infusion to deal with it.
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/luminescence

Improved Combat Text: Offers a massive amount of customization, showing icons of damage types you are taking, and what skills enemies are using. I would say this (and the Neka QoL Berenthas linked) is one of the best addons out there.
(Note, this addon has a stupid warning that tells you that it might be out of date, it isn't, and you can't turn it off. So every time you load your characters you'll get this warning. Just ignore it.)
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/improved_combat_text

Turn Separators: This improves the combat log by putting easy to read line separators after each turn. Makes everything much easier to read. This is made by the same author as the above and it has the same, horrible, warning every time you load your character. Just ignore it.
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/turn_separators

Go to Landmark: This addon will track all special tiles you fine on the map. From the menu you will find a new option that lets you either focus the camera on these locations or run straight to them. So if you found several chests in the maze you can run to each one. This will even track the location of that damn hermit, in case you forgot where he was hiding.
https://te4.org/games/addons/tome/go-landmark

Faster Run/Rest/Explore: This addon changes the framerate when you are resting or using autoexplore. The result is the game plays way, way faster on older machines (and even on my good computer it's an improvement).

Crosstier luminescence is not QoL it's straight buff to the player :p
And I agree with faster run/rest and landmark, those are also in Zomnibus btw.
Enhance compare lets you switch between comparing to mainhand/offhand/TK slot. It also lets you circle between comparing to first/second ring. It also lets you compare inscriptions! (And circle between those if you have several of the same type)

Because it was not answered fully, on "add-ons" and victories:

If you win with add-ons, it is registered in the character bank as normal. All achievements are gotten as normal (unless the add-on disables them, such as "Everything Is Unique"). The character bank has options for non-standard classes and races on lookup, so even those are included (but not the winner "x" on your spreadsheet which is just core class/race stuff).

The game will note you use add-ons, and will list all add-ons you use on the character sheet. Some humorless misanthropes will look up a winner's character sheet and silently judge if you're using things like "triple all level-up point gains" or some such cheat add-on, but ultimately it is your game to play.

If you use ANY add-ons except the main DLCs, though, even QoL add-ons, even just the "shut that dog up" add-on that just disables the dog noise in one town, when searching the character bank, there is a checkbox for "core only", and your character sheets will not show in searches of core only character sheets.

Unless you're seeking a particularly rare achievement in order to show it off, that doesn't really matter though. ToME ultimately is designed as a "play as you personally feel like" game, losing the "honor" of being in the lists of winners with core-only is the only thing you lose, you'll still be in the general list of winners, still USUALLY get achievements, etc etc.

The first and the last four look pretty interesting and I'll be trying those as well.

That's lovely. Now I'm excited to play again for sure.

Cool, that's just about what I expected to be the case. That's a more than reasonable policy for addons in my opinion.

Thanks for the assist, ya'll.

The only add-on I'm using is the one that lets you choose what adventurers will appear at the start of your game. Most useful for making sure you get a Tinker adventurer in the base campaign. :p

I actually got hated on a while ago for having "no honor" because a couple of my winners were flagged for using Add-ons. I have literally 2 add-ons:

Proper Possession - This makes it so when you are playing the Possessor Class; you can still regenerate and use Heal items/talents to regain HP. Pretty broken when you think about it, but damn it I want to be keep my stolen body forever!(Plus previous ToME Possessors could regen innately as well.)

Reflected Golem - Let's you use the Mirror of Reflection on your Golem(if you have one), so you can change it to whatever you want... because; damn it, I want to see a french maid facetank for me while I throw bombs!

Anyway, really glad someone made this thread. Totally going to grab that Turn Separators Add-On, half the times I don't understand who did what in the combat log lol.

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned Easy Map. the fullsize in-game map has one of the worst possible interfaces (it sometimes can't even show the whole dungeon floor!) and Easy Map turns it into one of the best possible interfaces. Super intuitive, looks great, works great, literally no reason that I can fathom why you wouldn't want this one.

This is the v2 version which is just modified by a player to suppress an error message.
