I died when I opened a chest, 4 rare enemies spawned and I didn't rest before opening it, almost made it though, ah I don't think I'm gonna open them anymore, not just chests but anything that I don't need to :)
btw I'm following your let's learn guide on youtube, currently on ep.5 , it's awesome, helped me a lot, I just started playing this game cpl of days ago, tried few combos with classes and races but was confused where to go and what's going on, you explained it very well !
Kinda feeling pretty bad about that Sandworm thingy, thinking starting over just to get there and die the same way makes me sick, yeah I can play in Exploration mode but that's not fun and no matter how experienced I get to play that tunnel it's just not good, that level should have been optional IMHO, it's ridicilous ! If nothing else it's tedious.
oh, and the sandworm lair is actually optional if you don't pay attention to the quest log. Only mandatory dungeons on the starting continent are dreadfell and reknor.
e: class specific dungeons aren't ever required but unless you're on madness you should do them anyway

To make my question more clear, do I need to complete Into the darkness quest in order to finish the game ?
I'll try sandworm lair again, started new game with a new class and I find this one to be WAY better and quicker, suits better my style, anyway I'll try it again and if it doesn't work I'll just pass that one.
Most important tip for sandworm lair is to only move between rooms by following shortly behind a sandworm, and having a teleport can save you.
And that life I lost on last level with boss who appeared right after spawning in that room, surrounded by maybe 10 more various creatures, it took maybe 2 turns and I was dead, I wasn't even aware that boss is in there, I realized that after I died.
Anyway I don't think it's worth it, didn't get anything special, maybe if you go there early, I went on level 16, but okay... glad it's not mandatory because definetelly it's not for me :)
