Digging / Burrow do not work

Hello there!

I seem to have encountered a problem and wanted to ask for help.

Problem description:
Neither Digging nor Burrow work in my game, on different characters. Digging however, did work a few days ago. Maybe this is due to the recent version change.

When using dig on a wall tile, I just get the message "dug for x turns", but the wall will remain.

Using burrow does not do anything at all. It does not let me enter wall tiles.

My setup:
I'm playing the 1.1.3 version on Ubuntu Linux 13.10.

Edit: I can burrow through sand, but still can't dig.
