When compare to Atelier Ryza. I pretty much learn that you have more of fun time play during fighting. Since the game play totally change. Also have more freedom to travel around the world to gather stuff.
The answer is no.
Personally, I don't enjoy the Ryza series too much. It finally changed the battle system from classic turn based which I always feared happening.
You should Start with Atelier Sophie, imo.
Reason that you will get to know these character more and avoid play out of order. Other wise you will be a bit confuse on which story came first.
Some Atelier game are not relate to these character. Its a kind a mess to keep track of.
(edit)Lucky some one do a list of game fit in timeline in right order.

I did not want to recommend the Arland series first, as it might be a bit too old and throw them off. If theyre cool with strict deadlines, then for sure.
Also why the order of Rorona, Sophie, Meruru?
If op starts with Rorona, play Totori then Meruru, then Lulua. Sophie is from a different trilogy
If think about Sophie. Then I would play Firis after. Reason that Sophie and Plachta show up in Aterlier Firis.
