EDIT: Seriously you can do this right at the start of the game. These other solutions are making things way more complicated than they need to be.
Put the large ladder on the bed and the step ladder on top of the big ladder. That gives the perfect height to just jump onto the roof of the building.
You can climb back down the same way with one ladder or just grab the ladder and jump off. There wasn't fall damage. Just make sure you grab the ladder so it doesn't cause clipping issues when you build the second floor!
