No Sound (Windows 8 in Compatibility Mode)

Anyone else having (and more importantly, solved) an issue where the game runs fine... except it's completely silent?

Running on Windows 8.1 as administrator in compatibility mode for Windows 7.

I checked the other threads, Please read first if you're having problems. and Please read if you have problems running on Windows 8, but they didn't help.

Sound card is the bog-standard on-mobo RealTek audio controller, but I use the Kraken 7.1 (and it's virtual interface) as standard - all drivers are up to date and I've tested over standard phono, HDMI on the GFX card and over the USB headset, all silent.

Any thoughts?

First, make sure the in-game sound slider isn't set really low or to mute in the pause menu. Once you've loaded a save file, just press escape to bring it up. The sound slider is in the lower left corner. Second, try just running the game as admin, but not in Windows 7 compatibility mode and see if that makes any difference. We haven't had any other reports of sound issues, so this could help determine if this is a Windows 8 problem or a more general issue. Also, if you could post your specs, that would be helpful as well.
