Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) (this game needs it apparently.
Game was giving me a "side-by-side configuration" error message when i tried to run it.

Microsofts solution can be found at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/error-the-application-has-failed-to-start-because/df019c0d-746e-42d0-ad68-465e18e3f3ef?auth=1

I tried them all in reverse order and tried it after each. It finally worked with Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) - which means either thats the one needed OR theyre all needed. Hope this helps people with problems.

thanks, that worked well. i've been playing this since it came out, it's one of my favorite games -- after i mod it in the files. i got this steam version hoping that it'd fixed the crash i most always get 3 quarters of a way into a game. modded or not. it was only 5 bucks.

This worked for me. I only installed the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) on Windows 10, 64-bit. Thank you.

The side by side error can be fixed by finding the folder in the game directory named [CRT] and running BOTH of the vdist files (this game requires and older 2008 version of microsoft visual studio). You may or may not need to restart your computer, but I would just in case.
