Im not sure about England what this game is based. But in Estonia There was also serfdom similar to England. And we still have 1500 years old rootcellars around in our country. And not everyone can afford Rootcellars, so usually peasant has Digged holes in ground to preserve food. Or sink a barrel of Food to well or pond. Even crops lasted longer in silo. But im not sure about balance wise. But usually famine mechanic should take care of balace. Just though. couse it made no sense on historical and realism perspective to expire within month.
which have much longer shelf life /16months IIRC/
Whole problem is That it takes multiple days even week to harvest and then it takes as much to preserve. And some foods have preserving procress, so you cant do anything until they are done. So alot of it goes waste.
