I'm sorry if I misunderstood but why would you need to set it as a non-steam game to play it?
Im having the same problem. I did the resolution fix, but when i launch the game on steam its the old resolution setting. It only works if i do it from the launcher its self, but i wont have the steam overlay.
Sad but true...
Well considering "Steam" is a store, obviously they don't "support" anything, it's on the publisher.
And if the only solution is a "nonofficial tweak" that works the same on the Steam version or a non-Steam version...what exactly is the difference?
Download 7zip (it's free and much better than winrar) and use it to open the .7z file.
You can then just drag and drop the files from there.
Cheers!
there must be a way...why if i start the game through the launcher and set resolution and
high quality option, the game doesn't save these settings when i start it from the main .exe?
Still work, though. It's just you can't use triggers but if you choose a function to rebind then hit enter, you can then press a button on the 360 controller to bind this function to the button. Characters moves doesn't require binds. Left analog stick is working by default in the menu and in-game.
Here's how I mapped the buttons :
Action/Fire : A
Flashlight : Y
Run : X
Inventory : Start
Map : Back
Radio : LB
Freelook : B
Aim : RB
It's basically old Resident Evil PS1 control layout, aiming with R1 (RB on 360) and firing with Cross (A on 360) and running with Square (X on 360).
In menus, with this layout, A to validate and Y to cancel. And to move in the menus, it's the same as moving the characters, use the left analog stick.
Triggers are not required in such an old game, so I guess we can say 360 controller work fine with this game once you map the buttons manually.
Add the new launch.exe file as a non-steam game? Non-steam game can also use steam overlay :)
You can even rename the launch.exe file if you don't want to have the "launch" name in your games library. For example : "Alone in the Dark - The New Nightmare - High-Res.exe" will be displayed as "Alone in the Dark - The New Nightmare - High-Res"
Yeah. Highest 4:3 resolution available in the launcher is 1280x960 (twice 640x480). To check if a resolution is 4:3, divide the width by the height
and it should give you 1.3333333333 (16:9 for games give 1.777777777777778)
Erm, it can't really be a problem for this game as the Steam release doesn't have any achievements. Achievements appeared with the XBOX 360 and the more recent console this game was released on was the DreamCast.
