Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

How to get the game working properly
Since i'm a big fan of this series and I've suffered from recent problems regarding the steam version (Actually it's the GOG version pasted over, that's the first of many issues), i'll try to give you guys a hand.

First and of upmost importance: How to get the cutscenes working
Compatibility issues are at hand. If you're using Win7/8 and have a decent gaming rig you are guaranteed to be greeted by black screens coupled where the cutscenes should be playing, with their respective audio playing with no issue whatsoever.
The game comes with its .exe and a Launcher, where you should be able to configure resolutions, and toggle the High Quality option. You may have tried to open the Launcher to no avail since it DOES NOT DETECT ALONE4.EXE INSTALLED IN YOUR COMPUTER.

This is easily fixed by this launcher and .exe

After downloading and replacing the files, i would recommend setting alone4.exe's compatibility on Windows 2000, start as administrator (Even though you might have admin permissions already), and Always start the game from the Launcher.

Please report any issues you may find as i'll start playing as of now and i'll try to give you a hand.

Hello and thank you. I've downloaded it from another posting here in the forum.
It worked. But after reaching the moor the game asks for disc 3. game do not ask for it if I play with the original files.

This works almost perfectly. The only problem is that it launches independantly from Steam, so you're unable to use the Steam overlay, take screenshots, etc. and it does not count your hours. I know I can just launch it as a non-Steam game, but I really like my hours to be logged and to have proper functionality. Non-Steam games disappear off my games list every week or so. Maybe enough attention should be given to this so the publishers can update the game with this fix to ensure 100% functionality?

I just sent a help request at the Atari Knowledge Base
they'll probably laugh at me for trying to play this.

Subject: Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare (Steam)

"I recently bought AITD: The New Nightmare a day after it got released on Steam.
Trouble began when i tried to switch to a higher resolution.
You can only switch resolutions when using the game launcher, which does come in the files. You can't open the Launcher because it was "Unable to find Alone4.exe installed on computer". Not only that, .bnk cutscenes don't play on most modern computers without switching to a higher resolution."

I'd suggest you to do the same!
The more people complaining about an old game they just released on steam, I don't know what to type now!

I want my money back!

I thought it was a remake of an old game, not the actual old game. If i'd known i would never have bought, i usually dont buy games older than from 2010.

I sent a ticket into atari but i'm not holding my breath, i'm just relieved i only lost a few bucks on the game. I'll prolly just write it off as lost and make sure i do my research next time i buy a game.

Live and learn!

I'm amazed, i actually received a reply, this is what i sent and their reply:

I just bought Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare through steam and have solid black screens while running, the audio is just fine.

My system specs:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
I7 980x CPU
12 GB ram
2 GB AMD Radeon HD 6970
4x2TB HDs in a x2 raid

When i run the launcher it tells me it cant find the Alone4.exe

Please make a game fix to resolve this and pass it onto steam.

Thank You

Okay, I tried that fix and all the other ones mentioned and the cinematics still do not work!

Runnning it from steam won't work. Open the fixed launcher from the game folder and set the game to a decent resolution. That should work.

I've tried it says it cant find the alone4.exe

I tried the resolutions, both normal and HQ, and the cimenatics don't work. Alt+Tabbing does make the cinematics work, but then the game crashes.

Speechless. I'd be embarrassed to ever make a statement like this tbqh

Well it was like 4am when i typed it. I usually dont buy games older than 3-4 years as they run into problems with my computer, i usually have a decent gaming rig.

The age of games doesn't matter all that much compared to the game's original platform.
Unfortunately developers nowdays just rush out sloppy PC ports because it's faster and cheaper.
