How to get this game to work on Windows 10 (TUTORIAL HERE)
UPDATED:

Finally it has been solved! Now you can play
this game on Windows 8.1 and 10 without any issues. Thanks to Sage we found that using the Spanish version exe from GOG seems to fix all opengl and visual issues.

Please replace Alone4.exe with the new one in this Dropbox. Then you will see multiple language files, rename this entire file (depending on your language) from filename.♥♥♥ to locale (make sure it isnt .♥♥♥ anymore just blank) and replace it with the one in the game's directory. (Just search the games dir to find it's place).

Now boot the game and you are good.

Im pretty sure is easier to just get the spanish alone4.exe, after all... thats the one i used to find this, and is easy to get from GOG. And there is no need for a virtual drive.

Also, both have the same "issue" of having the Exit entry on the main menu along the confirmation read from the exe, so either they are spanish "SALIR" portuguese "SAIR" and the Configure controller is also in read from the exe so again "Configurar controles" or "Configurar comandos"

And lets not forget the little fact that it will show dreamcast button prompts in the pause menu for accept and cancel

I'll upload the alone4.exe from the gog spanish version, it should work with the regular english version even from steam.

Please, post the EXE file. Thanks!

The exe is in my dropbox along the language files

Thanks SageX85. I got the .exe file from your dropbox. I confirm that the menu appeared better, but unfortunately, if i click in any option of the menu, the game closes.
Besides using your .exe file, is there anything else that need to be done?

Thanks for your help!

It worked for you? I tried here but no go.

The title shows up after using the .exe. However after the movies the game crashed to desktop. Also put the loc files in the folder, no good. What exact file name should we rename the LOC file to? Thanks!

Yeah, exactly what happened in here :steamsad:

OK, after messing with it and looking it up online I found the right way: download the LOC file of whatever language you prefer and rename it to "locale" (yes, no extensions), and MOVE IT TO THE "PROVIDER" FOLDER, which you can find in the game folder. After that the new .exe should work.

Post it??? What is it

Really? You pasted it in your original post!!!! TWICE!!!!!!

That's my dropbox, im zedhqx4 in gog.

I'll paste the "tutorial" both here and in a TXT in the dropbox folder. (is a copy-paste from the post in the community forums from gog)

Ok, i got further in this issue. I remembered there was a PS2 version so i got a copy and opening the files, there was also a PROVIDER folder with some LOC_##.♥♥♥ files, obviously the locale files for deutch, english, french, italian and spanish. So i opened one of those with the hex editor to see if it used the same text pattern and it did. So the next step was to test them on the game. I copied one over renamed it to locale and what do you know? IT WORKED!!!! The only "problem" would be that since apparently this was from the dreamcast version in the game it shows as A in a red circle to accept and a Y in a green circle for cancel. And also, a few things are read from the exe itself, so those little things would have to be changed with an hex editor.

Well for the moment here's the "fix"

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8jei8izaeh01obp/AAD_UjM5Wf2BR5afE213y9fga?dl=0

-Install both the spanish and the english/french one (might be unneeded if you use the exe you can find in the dropbox folder, havent tested)
-Copy over the movies and Dialog folder from the english/french version over to the spanish install
-Download one of the LOC_##.♥♥♥ files from the dropbox link and rename it to locale (don forget to remove the ".♥♥♥")
-Test

For steam, replace the alone4.exe, with the one here provided, its the clean spanish one from GOG.

BrutalMethodS Jun 24, 2016 @ 3:15am
still not work for me even i change LOC_EN.♥♥♥ to locale menu still in spanish
and it crash back to desktop after character select screen :steamfacepalm:

The spanish language is something you will have to use if you want to play the game in win10. By now, that´s the only way. About the crash to desktop i don´t have a clue. Mine is working now. I´m using it in windowed mode with no problems so far.
