Bug with 4 portraits (Possible puzzle spoilers)

As the title says, I'm experiencing what I assume is a bug with the 4 portraits puzzle a few hours in. I have solved the light + dark book puzzle in the library, opened the secret area using the combined photograph, used the telescope, seen the 1692 on the wall, returned to the portraits, and here is where I think something has gone wrong. All the portraits numerical dials are unlocked except the one second from the right. That still just has the blank gold plate and I do not have the option to use the dial to enter the birth date. From one of the portrait I have collected a plasma cannon. and 2 bronze keys. Any walk through I watch shows people collecting one key, and all portraits are unlocked at this stage.

Has anybody else experienced this, and if so is it possible to get a save game from near this point to continue without needing to replay the entire game up to this point?

Know it's a long time ago, but for the record: you need to input 1692 in the fusebox in the secret room in the library. It unlocks Jeremiah's portait.

I've experienced the same blocker but for the 1st painting.
My guess is if you activate the fuse password before finishing the paintings it could cause a progression block.
